I'm hoping someone can help me with what's ailing my camellia. I planted it as a living memorial in memory of my two kitties who passed away in December and January of this year. So, I am determined to save my camellia. It'd break my heart if I lost this too. I bought it from Lowes in the March/April time. It now has segments of brown, dead leaves and branches. I have a sprinkler system ...

Here we go again. The water level in the lake is back to normal so the "experts" are draining it in anticipation of the upcoming hurricanes. I really hate it when someone feels like they can treat us like we don't have a brain in our collective heads, and you just knew this was going to happen, too. The next gov official that tells me when I can or can't water my plants can stuff it. Here is ...

Believe it or not this was in a pot of milkweed I got at a nursery. I had no idea what it was until it bloomed this year. It is still in the pot but the roots are in the ground. We will have to dig. It is about 6-7 ft tall. It's a native and beautiful but I don't have room for it.

It's about time for the new shows to start popping up. Anything you are interested in or looking forward to? I've got my sights on a new vampire show on HBO and, of course, the return of Heros and Survivor. What else looks good? Kate

Hi all I will admit I have been 'lurking' a bit for a month or so and figured I should make it official. We bought our first house in West Volusia last July and I am thrilled to make the move from container gardening to landscaping and learning how to veggie garden. I have barely done anything to the inside of the house (which needs serious work) because I have concentrated on the outside this ...

Nice! I have to try growing pineapple, now that I live down here. Guess they do OK in full sun? Any other hints? For my first effort, I'm going to just try putting a crown in the ground, will have to do some research. Scott

Okay, let's say something catastrophic happened and the food supply got interrupted somehow. No trucking, no grocery stores, and maybe no electicity or piped-in water. Right now, our vegetable gardening is mostly a hobby. However, if things in this world suddenly went horribly wrong, and you realized that what you could manage to grow or forage would make up most of your diet, what would you...

I have to be certifiable. I am so hooked on tomato seeds this year. So far I have 14 different varieties, not to mention the Big Zac seedling Denise brought me, and the other 4 varieties I just ordered and the other 4-6 varieties I am getting in a tomato seed swap. I have to be NUTZ!! First of all, if I save only one plant of each variety that is still some 25 different plants!!! Where the ...

I've been looking at trellises at Lowe's all summer, but not wanting to spend $99 - $199 for one. Today at the Valrico Lowe's they marked the trellises down 75%!! I got this one for $26 from $99. It has a nice leaf design on the sides. This one was $42 from $167. You literally have to go every day to find the deals!! I now have a weekend project....finishing mulching paths, ...

Here's what I have to swap. In exchange I'm looking for Bromeliads (that I don't have), Crotons (that I don't have), and anything that will grow in deep shade. We have no open spaces in the garden in full sun anymore! 4 - one gallon Crotons "Yellow Excurrens", 1 - one gallon Croton "Johannis", 1 - one gallon Croton "Thanksgiving": 2 - three gallon Caesalpinia pulcherrima - Pride of ...

This pretty spider has built a huge web between a very large porterweed and a palm tree. She's over 2 inches long just in the body! Including her legs, she has to be over 5 inches. Very impressive. I'm just hoping she doesn't catch a hummingbird - the web looks strong enough to trap one although I've never heard that they do that.
