Adobe Reader question
Published (2009-12-01 01:09:00)
you are correct any of the PDF readers we have mentioned will do the same job as the Adobe reader would do, the really important thing here is to eliminate those old versions from the pc because you are at very very high risk with them on the pc.

Well I would use the Add/Remove to get rid of it if it shows there. Then I would run Ccleaner (linked below) to get rid of any fragments left behind then try to install again. Use Ccleaner at the default settings, there is no need to alter any settings. Here is a link that might be useful: Ccleaner, slim version

CC is no more as a bricks and mortar store, but someone has bought the name and runs an online store using the name. Since I was on their original mailing list, I continue to get ads from them via e-mail. Don't know how the online outfit would be to deal with. Certainly not like the real store was.

If you do decide to remove AR please consider using REVO. Since v5.0, AR has been getting larger and larger while integrating deeper into the O/S. It can be a real bugger to remove with it's own utility if you can at all. I've seen corrupt uninstaller reports when trying to do so. Also, if you do decide to install the current version of AR I would suggest removing v5.0 first. My recollection is during the v3.0, v4.0, v5.0 era all too...

Which antivirus are you using? If you have been using an antivirus you paid for which is now expired, perhaps you should consider one of several free antivirus products such Avast, Avira Antivir, AVG. My personal favorite is Avira,

Thanks for your responses everyone. To tell the truth, I didn?t realize (until just the other day when I read up on batteries) that they actually need to be replaced at some point? Of course, it?s completely logical to me now. OK, so I guess I will leave the battery in the laptop, and just keep doing what I?m doing. I don?t think I?ll drain it all the way, though ? I never have yet anyway. I will check my power settings. And thanks for the...

Go into your BIOS and make sure your hard drive is in the list of boot devices. Also make sure it's not set to try to boot from the network. Next time you boot, watch all the messages carefully and see if there is a message about a bad boot sector or a bad device or a bad drive. I may be wrong, but I think I've gotten similar messages when I've had a hard drive go bad on me. If your hard drive had a problem, you may be able to...

ilmbg, I'm sorry you had to return your HP. I have had an Asus 1005H-P for a week or so now and I like it very much. It came with 1G of memory but I ordered 2G and switched it out. I did read that it does void the warranty, I think, so you might want to buy it with the 2G already installed. It wasn't difficult to change out the memory cards. I think I paid about $40 for the 2G memory at Amazon. Raven loves her Acer Aspire netbook so...

That's what I would do rather than fooling around trying to get it straightened out. You can waste lots of time that way.

Do you have more than one browser installed? If so, you must have Flash 10 installed for each. I also received the Avast notice but haven't done anything as yet. I think I recall reading that Avast is upgrading to a new version, but this doesn't seem to be it, so I'm not sure about that.

Yes, it absolutely could be part of this. Post additional information about the virus, and people on this forum can give you some help. Be sure to indicate what operating system, browser, etc. you are using. Do you know the name of the virus? What anti-virus protection are you using? As many details as possible, please.

well it could be that your Ethernet card has gone bad.. Have you tried unplugging everything including the power to your modem and router and doing a power off then a power up sequence? if not try that. are you using it wireless or did you have a cable connected to the Ethernet plug in the laptop?

OK Patricia let's start with what you have not old us. What operating system? What anti virus, and is it working now? What firewall and is it working now? What anti malware programs do you use, when were any of them last updated and the last scan done? Probably the anti virus and firewall have been disabled by the Trojans or whatever has taken control of your computer. Do you have a ...

If the icon in the taskbar is a red shield, it is probably a Windows notification thinking your antivirus is out of date. You should make sure your antivirus is updated and run it in a safe mode full scan.

Long life with a battery is using the laptop and using basic applications. The more intensive the program, the less actual battery time. You can also go into your Toshiba Power options (Control Panel) and adjust the battery settings to optimal (may help). Anything more than a year (warranty) is gravy. Having said that, some will fail sooner than others. I have had batteries last several years ...
