Should read winter grower will not tolerate heat. Crassula winter grower will not tolerate the heat. Echevieria winter spring grower, will not tolerate heat, has a thick stem. Should read I have seen crested Aeonium, and it is not that. I even have one it is a miniature Sorry for all the errors, Norma

Yours truly at The Bin of Drainage Divine - yes, the dust's bad enough to warrant a bandanna. That's an official shoveling shirt being worn, too.

The white stuff around the spines is the same tufts of hair that is visible on most cacti. It is one of the things to look for when deciding if a plant is a cactus or not ...

I've got E. ammak branching all over the place, and I will be trimming some this winter. These plants get 30 ft tall in this climate. Cuttings root easily and grow rapidly. Most of mine are variegated. Click on link to see one. I am looking for small globular CACTI, or what else have you got to trade? Here is a link that might be useful: Euphorbia Ammak

This is probably the one that you are looking for...coarse Silica sand. It can usually be found at some Pool supply or construction/masonry supply warehouse. I buy mine from the company below in a #50 lb. bag. Seems like a lot but actually the bag isn't very big at all, just heavy. I pay around $8.50 for a 50 lb bag. You can call the #800 to find if there's a location that sells it near you... Here is a link that might be useful:...

Maybe I'm confused, but Aloe Vera IS the ID. To isolate a search for pix, after specifying what you're searching for, then press "Images" & it'll restrict the search to that (photos or drawings), which should give you an idea. If what you mean about IDing is for Aloes in general (of which Aloe Vera is only one kind), try checking out Desert-tropicals.com, within that the Succulent Area, ...

Try a 4-20-20 or close to that, I not sure what the first number should be, you don't want to promote growth, that what the first number does, the 20 in the middle is for flowers, and the 20 on the end is for root growth. Start this at least March or April depending on your weather. Once they do set the buds for the flowers do not disturb the plant, or they will drop the flowers or buds. I ...

Hi Mike, Actually those are great questions!! I am somewhat new to Jades myself(its a little more of a challenge growing jades for me in FL due to our very high humidities),and have a lost a few to too much rain in the summer(rot)even with the soil less very fast draining soil. Would love some insights from the people that grow these successfully. For Jades/Succ's I had always thought that once ...

No, but my first stop would be Mesa Garden. Their list begins with Adenia and Adenium, continuing to Boswellia and Bursera, and it goes on from there. This sort of seed 'generally' doesn't take long to germinate - growing into a mature plant can take many years. Make sure you get germination tips with your seeds if you have any questions about a specific genus. Here is a link that might be ...

There IS hope then! LOL I too have a half of leaf (and also a whole one)of Kalanchoe orgyalis in a pot! The whole leaf has roots coming out of the end, I knew that one will eventually do something. The half of leaf I wasn't so sure, but its in the soil and seems pretty secure! Thanks for the picture Cactus Mcharris!

It certainly is not an Aeonium they will not tolerate the heat the leaves are not correct as well, it is not a Crassula, which is a witger grower I heve never seen a Echevieris grow such a thin stem. I belive it could be possibly be a Sedum deltoideum I used to have one crested but not any more, and of course there is good possiblilty I may be wrong. This is another reason labels are needed...

Actually, sand is usually a bad idea. It tends to compact the soil and retains too much water. Instead, use 10-20% fine redwood bark, and the balance pumice, perlite, gravel, turface, etc. with a particle size between 1/8 and 3/8 inches. Perlite is probably the least expensive option in small quantities, but it is super light and tends to float. On the organic side, avoid peat, it also retains ...

I have heard from nurserymen to add some vinegar to the water, if you can water by hand. It does make a difference. Very little per gal. I don't have a ph meter, it should be below PH 7 or use tomato food, Norma

For you I wouldnt call them slow growing. If cut back they will branch, keep cut back they could make a hedge if needed. Otherwise they make a dense succulent tree in time prone to falling over in sandy soils-even clay. Of all the great tropical trees...um,why so many of these?

I only know how to kill 'em, so I won't comment on your lithops. To post a picture, you need a photo hosting service like Photobucket. It's free, lets you edit images, and provides the HTML code you need to paste here to link to your photos. Someone more in tune with the mysterious and peculiar rhythms of Lithops and Pleiospilos care will chime in later with better advice. Brad
