Yup, there is the fire thing to consider. Chances are that if there is a fire big enough to get that high it's a done deal anyway. Original insulation: I am considering taping the creases where the rolls meet while I am up there (before the Prodex or whatever goes on). I find it interesting that my centers are 20". Guess that was to make the spacing even for the pitch length. Going to chat with the Prodex people again as far as...

Put up some plastic to keep the heat from escaping out the roof... I had a 30X30 unisulated shop years ago... I lined the entire shop with plastic (be carefull with welding, etc) and it actually heated pretty good with a small radiant heater.

Re: what is a good brand radiant tube heater?? I hear that! Should I do anything with the concrete underneath or on the sides of the concrete to insulate it? Or is that not necessary. I will be putting in a 4 post lift also.

Holy smokes, 38gpg is very hard! I have 30gpg here and it's pretty bad. If I boil a pot of water, where the water was after I empty it will be all white from the minerals. kenfath I would probably figure a way to sign up for that, then put a softener back in They say it's fine for septic tanks, so I don't see how it would hurt the town's sewer system. Wookie, look in the yellow pages, some companies will test your water for...

Re: How to seal off my garage door... boost insulation... Pics ixlr8, I like it! I scrounged around and found a price for a 7' double door, installed, of $1,500 and some change. That seems like a pretty decent price. How does your door compare with other insulated doors? I finally got my heater wired up... When you say "very aware" of CO...you mean you are aware that it CO is colorless, odorless, and will kill you in less than a minute in high enough concentrations? A "ventless" propane heater isn't just a burner with no flue. It's a burner that has been designed to burn gas and air at a level so close to the correct proportions, that no CO is produced. All "ventless" heating...

I just hung mine. Mine is hung where my ceiling goes up in the garage...on one side, it is screwed to the floor joists, on the other (high) side, it is hung with chain. I have the same hum...not that bad, but noticeable. Haven't figured out how to resolve it yet, either.

I've been insulating my shop these last few days. The walls are 2X6 with R-19 fiberglass. The ceiling is R-30. It was about 20 degrees F and sometimes even colder as I was doing this. I was wearing a tyvek hooded suit while I did this. I was amazed at how warm this thin extra layer of tyvek kept me. Now I'm wishing I had used it on the outside of the building between the OSB and the siding. So ...

I've done it and it worked very well. I had a 22 x 22 attached garage and would use it to heat the garage up every once and a while. I never had an issue with CO. As I started to use the garage more I went to a 30000 BTU ventless.

Place the outside unit where it is convenient to the inside unit. brick is soft and I would buck up and drill the hole where you want it, ugly lasts forever, your arm will only hurt for a day.
9 feet is probably perfect, no point in really high, pain in the butt if too low.
20 degrees outside it will work, but not be really efficient.

Here's a few shots of mine. Set it up last year and had it set at 58 degrees. This year I'm setting it at 60. I think some heat from the pipes is affecting the thermostat, that's why I bumped it up a bit. I need to insulate the pipes a bit more. Probably should have placed the thermostat a little further away...hindsight. Very happy with the overall operation, no regrets. The system does ...

I've got my 900 sq ft shop insulated with a "Double Bubble Insulation" . I've been impressed with its performance in the summer and now its just starting to get cold enough to use heat in my shop, so the jury's out on heating at the moment . I'm in the process of researching a heating unit now, but I'm using a 40,000 btu propane salamander heater and its just barley enough to keep it tolerable...

Do you have natural gas? propane? neither (total electric)?
What kind of heat do you want nat gas/propane/electric? (based on what is cheapest to consume?)
Is the building insulated? does it have a ceiling? or open rafters? how high is the ceiling?
Tight new construction? or loose older construction?
Attached to the house? detached?

I heat 1100 Sq. Ft. of my 30X50X10 with an 80K Superior... way too big... but it would be about right with it mounted in the center of my ceiling if I had a 12' ceiling.
Mine's mounted along the front wall hanging at a 45 degree angle... the front of the shop gets warmer, of course... the back has maybe a 5 degree F difference... but I have a wall across the shop, too.
It would help if ...

I'm getting ready to install a Bosch demand water heater in my house. If you can afford the initial cost, there's a tax credit and the energy savings will pay for the cost difference in a few years.

I don't have my gas pressure software handy, but off the top of my head, I'd say as long as you can get back on the 3/4" anywhere, without reducing you should be fine.
Is the garage attached? Does any of your pipe need to go underground?
