Carbon arrows... CAUTION!!!
Published (2008-11-18 11:38:00)
This was posted o another hunting forum a few years ago. It was posted as a warning to those that just grabbed up their arrows and reused them without inspection... especially following a miss from a tree stand. Brent

Who here uses hearing protection...
Published (2008-11-18 11:20:00)
Never while hunting. Any one else noticed that one rifle shot at the range without hearing protection and your ears ring for days? One shot at a deer and you don't even notice the gun shot much less have any ear ringing?

Quote: Any one else noticed that one rifle shot at the range without hearing protection and your ears ring for days? One shot at a deer and you don't even notice the gun shot much less have any ear ringing? Yes, I've noticed but it doesn't mean there's no damage. Noise is noise. Your ears don't care if your brain is too busy processing other data to tell you you've hurt your ears. Firing a gun without protection...

Excellent! Quote: That's exactly what you want. Use ALL the energy inside the deer. Awe, I'd prefer a full pass through for trailing reasons.

Domestic or yotes?
Published (2008-11-18 02:07:00)
I can't really tell from the pic. Coyotes' front toes are close together where as domestic dogs' are spread apart. Looks like you may have interrupted him on the las two pics.

Carbon arrows... CAUTION!!!
Published (2008-11-17 22:38:00)
This is the reason I only use aluminum. It looks like I've sliced my left wrist before because I've had a carbon arrow snap and go into my wrist. I'll take the slower aluminum over that again.

GOR-TEX
Published (2008-11-17 21:21:00)
If the boots have a GoreTex hang tag or label then Gore Inc will warranty your boots or force the manufacturer to do so. Contact the manufacturer and then, if you dont'get any joy, contact GoreTex directly and the vendor/retailer of the boot. If they're made correctly, they will not leak. GoreTex should be impermeable to water and permeable to water vapor. As someone mentioned, waders made of GoreTex dont leak. I'm an apparel...

When bird hunting this season I haven't been using hearing protection. I did when I was younger but dont anymore. Do you? Let me know for yes, no, or somtimes, and what kind of hunting you do.

Before firing even a new carbon arrow you should lightly hold the nock and tap the shaft a few times with a knuckle. Listen for a dull or scratchy sound. This is not what anyone wants when they pop the release. Brent

So being aweekend opener in northern MI the woods were busy. The spot I was in I knew bucks were there due to the hundreds of scrapes I had seen the week prior to the weekend.First two days were boring and I only saw about 15 does. With all the heavy snowfall and all the hunters in the woods I knew they'd be hiding.Monday morning rolls around and I get out a little earlier, and everyone's gone ...

Third day of gun deer season here in Southwest Michigan, 5 inches of " Lake Effect" snow and expecting more! I hunted out of my shooting shack to avoid the snow and didn't really expect much as the first two days were an excercise in how NOT to be in the right place. I saw deer but couldn't get a shot. Anyway, I'm sitting in the shack this morning at about 10:00 a doe and her two, this years fawns...

Last year the first day of buck in western Pa it was like a monsoon. Luckily I had new Irish Setter boots with GOR-TEX. My feet stayed totally dry. I was under the impression that GOR-TEX was totally waterproof. Well to my dismay I was bird hunting the other day and my feet got totally soaked. So I'm here to ask, is GOR-TEx totally waterproof or am I expecting too much?

Having taken one buck and a young doe thus far this bowseason, I was out for one more doe for the freezer. I have been shooting very well this year, and it was the first year for me to try carbon arrows and expandable broadheads. Both deer taken to this point died within easy sight of the stand, arrows and broadheads performing perfectly. With snow predicted moving in for the afternoon, I hit ...

Which do you believe tastes better?.... Just kidding! Seriously, I've been running across these tracks where I hunt and trap. To me the look like domestics because of the size and roundness, another hunter I described them too thought so as well, said they would be more narrow than round. I saw plenty more this morning, same size & dimension of what I've been seeing, by the way, no human ...

I think that we all agree, the 45/70 will kill any animal in North America. In Georgia, for sure. But, has anyone ever depended on one for grizzlies, or polar bears, or kodiak bears, as a defense or for hunting? If in the situation, would you feel that you had enough gun? Is it really used that much in Alaska? How much of its name is marketing technique, and how much is function? I ...

51 years old, hunting for 7 years and I finally harvested my first deer. 149 pounds dressed, 7 point as we count them here in VT, I used a Marlin 1894C with a Buffalo Bore .357mag with 158gr. J.H.P. Very clean kill, he only ran about 150 feet. The bullet passed just behind his right shoulder, through a rib, through both lungs and lodged just under the skin by the opposite shoulder. I was ...

I was looking at Cabela's website. I notice that they carry several brands and models of handheld GPS units. Does anyone here use one for hunting? If so, which make and model? Does it help in keeping you from getting lost? Don't laugh, I have the worst sense of direction in the world. I can get lost in a flat, open, level field. Heck, I get lost in WalMarts parking lot.

After my in search of new possum recipe thread was met with such ideas as Quote: Leave 'em there, buzzards and coyotes have to eat too. and Quote: 1. Dig a large hole as far away from the house as you can. 2. Place 'possum in hole. 3. Cover with dirt. 4. Order pizza or chineese take-out. 5. Enjoy not ...

i'm thinking about doing some coyote and fox hunting. but before i do i have some questions. 1. we can only stand or still hunt them, which is recommended? 2. what kind of call should i use? i heard that a rabbit in distress is a very good one. mouth blown and possibly electronic can be used. would most likely get the mouth type unless they make a handheld/operated type too. we can use...

This comming weekend is the opening of wisconsin gun deer season, and I will be going on my first hunt, somewhat alone. I will have someone with me, but I want to try and do all that I can myself. (long story, don't ask. Mr. pride and independance) My question to you, is what should I put in my pack, daypack. What are the "essential items", the things you don't want to leave home without. I...
