I guess it's the issue with knowing how to shoot only from watching people shoot .22 in the Olympics. Leaning backwards is just not a good idea with a big gun.

Keep it or trade it? (Norinco SKS)
Published (2009-11-21 21:16:00)
I just traded a Norinco SKS with sporter thumb hole stock that took AK magazines along with 6 AK mags and 500 rounds of ammo for a Browning A Bolt in 223 with Bushnell Elite 4200 3x9x40mm scope. I gave the guy $50 and my stuff for this. I guess I'm saying trade it for something you want an move on.

Remember that LSI just stopped doing business with the Brazilians. Either the problems were getting bad, so the contract was canceled. Or, with the contract almost over, LSI's shipments didn't get as good an inspection... Either way, end runs on a contract in a 3rd world country are usually not so good. This applies to other industries as well. -tINY

M40 in 6.5x47 lapua?
Published (2009-11-20 02:31:00)
Quote: 6.5X47mm is a wildcat round based on the 222 Remington Magnum. They don't go together. I'll give you two clues where this is wrong: 1. 6.5x47 Lapua is a standard cartridge designed and made by Lapua; 2. 6.5x47 Lapua has a case head diameter the same as .308, not .378" like .222 Remington Magnum Just for your reference, Zak. Different cartridge, same name, hence the confusion....

You will not find an "assault" style .22 for $200. You could buy a 10-22 and add a Tapco stock to it for about $300 total. But it doesn't look like the AR-15 style you want.

Also, I was told that the Saiga 7.62's have chrome lined barrels. Is this true? I have UTFSE and turned up no definitive answers, just discussions. If it's true, it makes cleaning a lot easier/smoother.

If it wasn't for the .270, then I believe that the .280 would be THE whitetail round... If you're looking for something a little more unique and you handload, in the '06 case class, the .280 is hard to beat. (Unless you pursue a 6.5-06, big winner IMO) If you're looking for a whitetail gun that you'll be able to find ammo for in any wallyworld or gun shop, then the .270 is a winner....

Whichever you get you will want the other as well. If you plant to shoot deer, get the .44. For a plinker and SD you will want the .357. Shooting .38's or .357's if you reload, is about as inexpensive as you can go with ammo. I have the .357 and think it is great. I would like to add a .44 as well.

Ruger makes the #1(S) in 460. If I recall correctly that chamber will work with the 454. It's not exactly a lightweight...7 1/4lb.

I don't think anyone on the Army side of things feels that a 20" barrel is a requirement. The USMC is more attached to the idea, but the M4 is making inroads with them as well.

I do not own a rifle at this time. I want the most multi dimensional rifle I can have. I'm leaning towards a lever-action .30-30. I want something that can be relied on 110 percent, be used on most game, relatively cheap to shoot (relatively, we are taking rifle ammo), easy enough to maintain, and could be used in a self defense capacity if absolutely needed (not as much of a requirement...

How about five to eight inches at 100. Is that bad? I think so. And the five inches was with a lot of effort and load development.

I recently read another thread asking about 9mm rounds for whitetail hunting. It got a little rough on the the TS, with many people not offering any good technical suggestions, only reprimanding him for thinking of such, so I thought it'd be interesting to discuss the morality aspect of this topic in a separate thread. What makes a hunting caliber humane or inhumane? Seems to me ...

The "Bob" is a cult classic. Will it do more than a 243/6mm? With handloads, Yes. I have shot the bulk of the big game that I have killed, in the last 25 years with a Roberts. I own a 6mm but consider it a heavy varmit caliber (OK let the flames begin ) I like the extra bullet weight for mule dear and find that the 120s will shoot flat enough, as far out as I have any business shooting at game.....

How much money do you plan to spend? That'll have the biggest influence on what brand AR variant you buy. I suggest you visit two other forums: www.ar15.com www.m4carbine.net I have a Colt AR15A2 and a few Bushmaster M4 carbines. All have been reliable shooters for me. Cheers!

I find the Tikka to be the best compromise between quality, accuracy, and price. I own a stainless Tikka T3 Lite and it is very well put together and accurate for a gun costing no more than it did.
