Since it's also my b'day that weekend, I'll be taking it easy in the Keys where the air is warm and the drinks are cold - not the other way around!... Stay safe everyone

You're welcome - but please remember - feeling great - doesn't mean they will Hit where you look ! You really have to either know the exact dimensions that work for you / or be able to take them to a pattern board to find out. Based on the stock dimensions I've looked at on both guns - neither of them would fit me ( but I still think there is a reason a used Rem 1100 is selling for about the same price as the others new ...) ......

Typically the perceived recoil, or kick, is lessened with a semi-auto. This has been discussed here many times and it generally boils down to the semi-autos: (1) Spreading the recoil reaction over a longer period of time, and (2) The mechanism of the semi-auto gun eats some recoil. Is the recoil reduced "a lot" with a semi-auto? -- it depends on several factors and your perception. Your best bet is to borrow a semi-auto and...

for a shotgun you can get a vent rib mounted off to the side. I imagine you could do this for any gun, but I have actually seen it on competition shotguns.

who uses a sidesaddle?
Published (2009-11-25 14:48:00)
I've only had my gun a few months, so I don't have a ton of experience with it yet, but I did get a cheap elastic buttstock shell holder. I keep 5 rounds in it (split between 00 buck and slugs) and I keep 6 rounds int he 7 round mag. When I've taken it out shooting, the buttstock holder doesn't seem to affect balance or maneuverability. The buttstock holder seems to hold the shells closer to the long central axis of the gun...

I've heard/read alot of good about the "lower end" Benelli... Benelli Nova Pump and SuperNova. Other than that, the Mossberg, Winchester and Remington's will serve You well. Just as with any other piece of fine equipment/machinery, maintain it well.

A pouch on my hip is handier... Shot an 870 with a sidesaddle that belonged to a buddy... Hated it. I'll take a pouch on the hip or bandoleer over a sidesaddle any day...

Ohio Deer Gun - Smooth vs Rifled

Also as Willie Lowman suggested stop by Down`s Bait. If on the way to your hunting spot in Logan you pass rt.664 exit, your about two minutes from Down`s. Exit off 33, right onto 664, go maybe 1/8 mi to 1st rd. on right(can`t remember name, maybe Lake Logan Rd). Downs is up on rt. at sharp left hand curve. John(the owner) is a very staight up/knowledgable guy that runs his small business off his trustworthy reputation. May be worth your stop as...

I would go with a rusty worn out 1100 that had a cracked stock before I even considered a Stoeger. Of course this is my personel opinion and others will disagree.

i bought the same mossberg combo a bunch of years ago, great shotgun, having the 2 barrels is great it covers all your basesand takes about 30 seconds to change. i'm not up on the current price since i bought mine a long time ago but it seems reasonable.

They throw the balance of the gun off, so I throw them away. I also like a short magazine tube. I really don't expect an extended firefight at my house.

kevin, you paid way too much for a charles daily shot gun. however, some guys i hunt with in NC shoot them religiously and swear by them with buckshot. dont know how they perform with birds though. but the pattern well, and hold up in swamps, on nasty rainy days with buckshot in them though.

Many of these current Chinese imports are replicas of the Remington 870 and appear under a good number of brand names. "Some" accessories will usually fit, but barrels will not, and stocks may need fitting. About all you can do is test fit an accessory to see if it will fit and function. "Probably" side saddles will work, fore arms may not. A simple solution is to email H&R and ask ...

No. The High Standard was a different design unrelated to any other brand. Remington or Mossberg type accessories won't work. Ghost ring sights are pretty universal, so as long as the receiver top curve is close, the rear should fit. Standard type magazine extensions won't work. The High Standard took a special type of magazine extension, and I think the only maker went out of ...

What weighs more a pound of lead or a pound of feathers???? A 1 ounce charge of 7-1/2's @ 1200 FPS will travel the same distance if it is fired from a 410, 28ga, 20, 16ga, 410, 12ga, 10ga and or a howitzer. It is all physics. Just because the "pipe" is bigger doesn't mean it will travel further.

If I am not mistaken, you are also allowed to use a muzzleloader. Between Shotgun (rifled or smooth), handgun ammo, or ML, I'd take the muzzleloader hands down. If limited to shotgun or handgun ammo, I'd pick up a lever action .44 mag and use Hornady LeverEvolution ammo. As to your technical question, yes rifled barrels tend to give better accuracy than smooth barrels.

OMG....that could get you banned, shot, drawn and quartered, boiled in oil, and that's just for starters...... seriously, if you want a shot shotgun, buy some cheap Mossberg 500 / Remington 870 and go from there....if necessary, sell the BT to make it happen

There isn't a hard rule about what choke is for what target. There's a variable involved: range. You'll hear full choke for trap and open choke for skeet, that's because skeet targets are shot at a much closer range than trap targets. As a rule of thumb you use a tighter, or more constrictive, choke the farther you are going to be from your target. A second factor is also at play: the ...

The auto will be softer recoiling probably, but the o/u gives you 2 different chokes if you want. All shells should be caught at skeet & trap if you wish to keep them. At our club, you can not pick them up if they are ejected on the ground, a safety thing. Trapshooters get very upset if you throw hulls at them. Use a shell catcher on an auto & put your hand over the empties on an o/u as you open ...

unimpressed with remington 3" magnum 00 buck I shot a couple rounds of 3" magnum 12 pellet 00 buck from remington last weekend. I was sorely unimpressed. I was patterning my shotgun with the 2 3/4" 9 pellet 00 buck from remington and stuck in a few 12 pellet magnum rounds to see how they compared. The magnum shells suck. ...
