trail boss with jacketed bullet
Published (2009-11-25 12:52:00)
To the OP, there are claims of unexpected pressure spikes appearing when working jacketed loads up with Trail Boss, and that these do not occur with lead. Give Hodgdon a buzz and see what the latest word is?

Hot 45 colt vs 454 Casul
Published (2009-11-25 07:47:00)
Evidently I'll have to rethink my "no way" opinion. Yet...I'd like some clarification, if possible. Quote: Loads also exist in that range for the box stock .45 Redhawk. Where can I find that data? I don't mean that in a critical, doubting way; I'd like to know and I don't. About some other ideas - remember, I'm fond of the .45 Colt, handload it, shoot it, carry it. When I read Quote: I was...

Necking down 30-06 to 25-06

Quote: Military brass is thicker because it is heavier? This assumptions is a half truth, military 30/06 military brass has a case head thickness of .200, commercial brass has a case head thickness of .260 (R-P), so military brass has a thinner case head and a thicker case body. Military brass is thicker. That's Common Knowledge in the World of Ammunition Craft. I'm not sure why Military brass is made that way, but is definitely is,...

New type of hollow point bullet...
Published (2009-11-25 18:51:00)
Quote: You make this statement as if expansion shots from b-gel aren't the norm. They are used across the industry, and I highly doubt your expansion shots are from real tissues, such as you leg! B-gel serves as a medium in which all variables can be managed to compare different bullets and calibers on an equal playing field. But, please keep an eye out for that gel block - you just never know what may show up for real or on the...

380 reload bullets
Published (2009-11-25 13:42:00)
I prefer the length of the hollow base. A typical 100 gr cast bullet will run shorter than its jacketed counter part. The Hollow Base bullet provides that length at the same weight; and can be sized to .355", while still able to easily obturate - even in oversize bores. (Like my .359" P.O.S. Taurus) If you have another powder, I would recommend using it, instead of the Titegroup. Titegroup is extremely finicky in the .380...

Any problems with seating WC...
Published (2009-11-25 09:43:00)
That is the way I seat my wadcutters. I make sure that a full-diameter secton of the bullet extends into the chamber throat to help ensure the best initial alignment of the bullet when the cartridge is fired. That is probably what is helping your keyholing. But, there may be another reason, see below. Frankly, wadcutters should not be keyholing unless you are shooting them to ranges beyond 50 yards (where there shape and velocity decrease...

You can mount any light system for the chrony you want as long as it is not a flourecent lamp. Any steady light source will work for you. You may want to try the diffuser screens to even out the overhead light so the eye's can see the bullet shadow.

How long is the cartridge? The 30-40 has the same base diameter as the 44.Russian and successors, so it would be a 44 most likely. I found a 44. Rhino and a 44. Linebaugh Long mentioned in Gun Digest of the 44s as based on the 30-40.

Well I managed to pick up a set of RCBS dies for $12 and the brass is on order. The best I can find for the lilgun data is on this site. http://stevespages.com/357p_5_180.html

Love the triple 2! My old Remingon makes the newer stuff stay in the safe when I am varminting. I use H322 but go high. Using SX or Blitz bullets I never have an exit hole! Plus, the shock factor kills them NOW!
Played with things from 221 to 375 on coyotes. Experimenting. The heavier, slower bullets did more pelt damage and the critters often ran some distance with holes blown through....

Bullet lengths on the web?
Does anybody know where I can get the lengths of various bullets?
I have a $5 order at Midway. Shipping is more than that. So I figure'd I'd get some different bullets, too.
In particular, I'm trying to find some 7mm FMJ or spire-point (maybe match-grade). As an experiment, I want something...

IMR 4198 should provide adequate cycling pressure with the 50 and 55 grain bullets if the load is correct, and may well do better because it builds pressure and burns better behind a light bullet than a slow powder will. The slower powders you mentioned work best with bullets of above about 60 grains because they need more inertial mass to build pressure against. The heavier bullets also have ...

Constructive criticism or observation? At one time there was a tool that was similar in appearance that was used as a crimp tool, the stylist was used to put dents in the neck, the dents held the bullet in place, I can see how your tool is used to check run out but without case support I can not see how the tool is used to reduce run out, not easy but a slide type indicator could be attached to ...

Could you recommend to me a chronograph and also a good online source to purchase it?

Do the kits really have everything?
With the price of ammo being what it is these days, my wife suggested I finally go ahead and buy a reloading setup.
I'm primarily interested in reloading 7mm-08 rifle ammo, although 9mmP pistol ammo comes as a close second. Maybe a few hundred rounds a month. Certainly less than a ...

REloads less accurate than Cheap federal.. help..
a little background:
i bought 120 rounds of Federal Blue-box .308, in a 150gr soft point.
it is $14 a box at Wal-mart..
the reason i bought it was to be able to sight my rifle in and in turn fire-form brass to my chamber.
I used an RCBS neck-sizing die to size the brass ...

270 with IMR4198, 2400, Unique
Have these powders in stock, want to load a few 270 Winchester. Also have Hornady 130gr SP Interlock. Find the following in manuels.
From Lee Modern Reloading, 30.5/34.5gr IMR 4198, 150gr jacketed bullet. This load would be fine, I thank with 130gr as well.
Lyman #46, for 124gr cast(#2 ...

Absolutely no problems at all. I do this when developing loads every time now. Only took one time dropping an organized ammo box with a workup in it to figure out this was necessary. Try figuring out what's what with 50 rounds of all same components, just different powder levels. I just put an "A" or "B", etc. on each case with a fine tip Sharpie and write in my log book what each letter ...
