Try taking a pic in a well lit room with the flash off! Nevertheless, a neat ad for travel to the New York World's Fair! Love the Queen Mary, special ship she is!

25 - Silver. 50 - Gold. 60 - Diamond. 75 - Platinum. And I remember there were all these other anniversary names for like 5, 6, 10, 12 year anniversaries as well...like cotton and china and whatever...It was supposed to reflect the kind of anniversary present you were meant to give your wife/husband. Like on the 'China anniversary' it would be something like a new tea-set or on the 'Cotton anniversary' it would be a new...

Ahhhh, now that brings back memories! When I was a little tyke back in the late '60s, early '70s I used to go with my mom when she went shopping in Downtown L.A. -- back when it was still the place to shop. And no trip to Downtown L.A. was complete without lunch at Clifton's! I fondly remember the child's Treasure Tray! Last time I was at Clifton's was over 20 years ago. I definitely need to go back there some time.

Mrs. Wiley stayed for a short while with her daughter and son in law next door to my childhood home. She was in her late 90's, played the Flamenco guitar and loved crossword puzzles. It must have been around '61 to '65 because my buddy and I were fascinated by the fact that her father fought for the Union in the war between the states.

Neat!
Thanks for this.
'Round here Roosevelt Field has become synonymous for a shopping mall. There's not much left of one of the US's once most busiest airfield. Although there are a few reminders of its aviation history still around Old Country Rd.

In one way or another, I always have these songs in my mind:
Harbor Lights
I saw the harbor lights
They only told me we were parting
The same old harbor lights that once brought you to me
I watched the harbor lights
How could I help if tears were starting
Goodbye to tender nights beside the silv'ry sea
I long to hold you near and kiss you just once more

Fantastic! Now what accounts for the existence of such films? Was Portland - a very conservative place in the 30s - forward-looking enough to be doing scientific traffic studies?
This was a watershed moment in auto safety. We as yet had no driver ed requirement (sometimes not even a test) for licenses. Yet cars were getting numerous - and fast - enough on the roads that the old ways weren't...
