As long as I'm at it..., Manny Oquendo died earlier this year. If I had to pick what my favorite band of of all time was, it would be hard, but I'd probably choose Manny Oquendo & Conjunto Libre. On top of that, Manny played on some of my other favorite records of all time with Eddie Palmieri and La Perfecta. Check him out. http://www.lpmusic.com/The_LP_Family.../oquendo1.html

Well if you want an online variety of 20s, 30s and 40s music...check out online radio stations.
Two of the best are: Radio Dismuke
Or if you have Itunes - The 1920's Radio Network (look under Radio/Electic)
The names of the artists scrolls at the top so if you hear a piece you like, you can then hunt the 'net for more.
Welcome to the Lounge.

We're at this very moment hosting a concert by the Butch Thompson Trio, well known from "A Prairie Home Companion." I'm in the office counting out the tills as they do their encore number, a version of Bing Crosby's "Where The Blue Of The Night Meets The Gold Of The Day."
Hopefully they haven't left a mess for me in the Green Room. These musicians can be brutal.

I was going through some old threads and came upon this. Cachao is every bit as important to the music world as someone like Charlie Parker. It's a shame that more people around here apparently don't know much about his music (judging from the lack of response to the thread) . Everyone should do themselves a favor and check him out. He invented the mambo (well, him or Arsenio Rodriquez). ...

Beautiful radio, and yes, a wonderful find too.
At first glance it appears to be a 1940 model radio, but I might say a year earlier based on the more intricate detailing of the woodwork.
Surprised that the dial escutcheon is in such great shape, many of those have warped over time due to the unstable composition of those earlier plastics.
So many of these big old consoles get ...
