Im not 100% sure exactly what it does, but yeah im led to believe that that it is gain. What happens when you turn the gain down? The volume go's up. So it is doing a very similar thing. Gain isnt a volume control it is a setting that should be matched to what the Head Unit is outputting. Set it too low and you will be amplifying the signal too much and creating those pesky square waves that kill amps and speakers. Also dont sound too...

Quadlock Connector Grande Punto
Published (2009-11-28 13:01:00)
Grande punto is not quadlock. Th only ones I have come across are kraut cars like VAG's. Halfords doing what they do best and selling you sh*t you don't need. Grande punto is ISO, as is your HU so just plug it in. Only thing you might need is an ariel adapter.

Installing non-factory head unit
Published (2009-11-30 13:00:00)
Thanks for all the replies guys! Had a look on the factory head, the diagram label was a little distorted, but it looks like the off plug is for telephone attachment? Which I dont have so no biggy! Took a punt, plugged my pioneer in, everything works fine (including factory sub)! And thanks to the brilliant sound processor in the pioneer everything sounds sooooo much better now!

Front Components - 2000 Mk2 Punto.
Published (2009-11-27 18:01:00)
I'm an idiot. I meant Punto but I can't work out how to change the title. hahaha! It's a Mk2 2000 Punto! =) I've just installed a CD player and Multi changer. Want to just upgrade the front speakers for now. Looking at these: MB Quartz FSA 216. I'm guessing i'll need to modify speaker adaptors because of the depth or could I just replace the standard adaptors with these? ahh, I can't post links, they are...

Are you sure that it is just when the ta is on. Have you tried it with the radio. It sounds like the remote wire which switches the sub amp on is connected to the auto antenna. When the ant gets power ie when radio is on the amp gets power.

A small (say 8") sub would be a better idea than a speaker imo, though I have no idea about where you could mount it in a GP.

I so are you using an amp? And trial and error is the key if you are wiring from the Amp to the HU loom.
