Vegas 9 trial - restrictions

Thanks again Perrone. So does this allow me to actually edit in its intermediate codec by importing the original AVCHD file on the timeline & then doing a "Render As" to another file, & then replacing the original timeline file with the rendered one. I was thinking to process the original as an intermediate - (converted to DV), to make the editing easier on the PC if possible, or is this not possible. RonC.

I am not sure if this can be done in Vegas or not? I have a poster and I want running lights like a marquee to go around it, animated off and on. Thanks

Thanks John! I've heard of Boris RED before but didn't really get around to checking it out. I've read up some more about it and I'm convinced! I'm taking your advice and downloading it. Hopefully I can get to using it soon for all my compositing needs! Will keep you posted! Thanks also for the info on 64-bit upgrading. I'll check that out further.

Perrone: I appreciate your insight.. I was under the impression Vegas can address up to 4GB thus a 2GB limit IS significant. I'll investigate a bit more and see if Veags is hitting that 2GB limit next time it bombs out on me. Where in Windows can we specify more memory to the 32bit instance of Vegas? Thanks

It all depends on what codec was used inside that MOV file. It appears you do not have whatever codec was used installed. MOV files are just like paper sacks - you can put anything in them. You just don't have what it takes to read it.

Why on EARTH are you running 32bit Vegas on a 64bit OS? You are seeing these problems because you are running out of memory. If you were running the 64bit version, you wouldn't be seeing these problems.

Well first the good news. Yes it CAN be done in Vegas. Now the bad news. How much time do you have? ;-)
Vegas really isnt the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or even 5th choice for this IMO but if you don't mind having lots and lots of tracks with lots and lots and lots of KEYRAMES on a Video FX of Light Rays then yes it can be done. Careful, not too much coffee, you can miss keyframes that way. Methinks...

Sadly no, but here's a free converter if it's of any help.
Free Video to Flash Converter: convert video to flv swf flash
Can't vouch for it's quality/performance but I have used a couple of other of their free products and they seem OK.

You could upgrade to Vegas Pro 8 or 9 which have an MJPEG codec built in :-)
If you don't want to do that though, another option is to install the trial version of the MainConcept MJPEG codec .
As long as you only use it for decoding, it won't put a watermark on your video.

Have you told Pro 9 that SoundSoap is your default audio editor?
Options > Prefs > Audio > Preferred Audio Editor.
For cleaning up short pieces of a long clip, here are a few different ways to approach it.
One is to split the clip while it's on the timeline and do "Open copy in SoundSoap" on it.
Another is to create a subclip from the Trimmer and do "Open copy in SoundSoap" on it.

How is anyone supposed to "sell you on it" when we have no idea what you shoot or why? Do you need the features of 9? If not, stay where you are.
Need RED support? Go 9
Need DPX/EXR support? Go 9
Need 64bit? Go 9
Need better color space support? Go 9
Need to render to XDCAM? Go 9
Need to drop in AVCHD including the Canon 5D/7D? Go 9
Don't need any of these things? ...
