I'm finally getting the opportunity to move on some better audio gear. I'm looking at purchasing a stand alone recorder for the capturing audio. I'll mostly be using this for interviews, documentaries and short indie movies. I have been a big fan of the Edirol R series unit because of the 4 XLR ports but not sure which would be best for me. I was hoping to get feedback from users or just ...

Are boom operators, in the strict sense of the phrase - operators of Fisher or Mole booms - a dying breed? Is there any work for such booms outside studios now? And even there, how often are they used, even for multi-camera work such as soaps? It would be a very great shame if this skill were to disappear, because once gone it isn't coming back, and neither will lighting directors and DOPs who ...

To all with the knowledge, i would appreciate your help I am a sound/recording engineer in the studio/live sound section and i have managed to bag myself a job to do sound for a short film. One more thought, I don't feel like it's good enough to just have a pair of headphones to monitor the audio with. I couldn't figure out how to bring up a visual on the Canon GL1 to see if I'm redlining. Is there a cheap solution that might have LED level indicators that would allow me to monitor the audio? Should I run through a small mixer first then to the Beachtek?

I just had a friend come in and do a little demo on setting up a wireless system. The four key points he went over were: 1. Antenna placement, positioning and line of sight (try not to cover the antenna or bend it) 2. Autoscanning for open frequencies 3. Adjusting the Transmitters "Sensitivity" or levels for optimum results 4. Adjusting the Receiver's output level We shot a video...

Somewhere you've said: " The cmc641 is the gold standard. You don't see a movie set without them. Below that (in order) are the AT4053a from Audio Technica, the Audix SCX-1 and Oktava MC012 with hyper capsule." That was here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/archive...hp/t-2204.h tml So do you still agree? WOuld you say that for dialog inside we have, from better to worse, The ...

Here is a bit of background for my the upcoming questions. I own a sony pcm d50 recorder but am leery of using it for foley sound efx for a film because I cannot record in mono. I can use a zoom h2 but it just seems to create stereo files with identical information on each track. Basically I am a bit confused about what recorder (either PCM D50 or Zoom H2) I should use for sound efx and why. ...

I have a Sennheiser G2 Wireless system (with one mic) hooked to my Canon HV20... works perfect, no problems. Question... I really want to add a mic for guests on my show. Can I simply add another wireless unit w/ mic and the receiver will just recognize it? I realize if this does work, all audio will be on the same channel, but I don't think I care... or do I? (again, assuming that what I ...

Can anyone confirm that the UK licence-exempt frequencies: Quote: Range 863 - 865 MHz lowest channel 863.100 MHz highest channel 864.900 MHz are OK at the moment for use in France? I have attached a small clip that includes ambient audio of a person asking the presenter a question. Then the presenter provides an answer. I have clipped both ends short so there is just a little of each on the attached clip. This audio was obtained via the method mentioned here. towards the end of the presentation, I was able to find the combination of Beachtek, house PA mixer, and ...
