I heard a guest on Hugh Hewitt's radio program talk of how "Joy to the World" was derived from Psalm 98-- which is Psalm 97 in most Catholic Bibles, because the Book of Psalms contains the same text, there is a difference in chapter division.

"Now some Pharisees who had been sent questioned him, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"
"I baptize ...

It's just not enough to say "love," until we have some _content_ which defines the _nature_ of love. As long as mere warm-fuzzy feelings drift along undirected, all sorts of selfish, reckless and exploitative behaviors can label themselves as "love"--which in turn, as we actually see happening today, allows the people practicing the wrong behaviors to say that any criticism of their actions is ...

I know we've had some kind of topic like this before. I also know that before there was any internet--or even telephones--there were such things as courtships conducted through postal letters, leading to actual marriages. The basis is in "the extended DVD"--that is, in the Septuagint Old Testament--in the two Books of Maccabees. The Maccabees were Jewish patriots, who in about 150 B.C. freed Judea from the outside control of a Greek-influenced Syrian empire. Judas Maccabeus, about whom Handel wrote an oratorio, cleansed the Jerusalem Temple from the desecrations committed by the Syrians. This cleansing is ...

Personally I use the New King James; it retains a lot of the beauty and wording of the King James but is easier to read because it replaces archaic words and wordings with more modern language. For serious study I would recomend a word-for-word translation because it lets you have what the original writers were saying, not what someone thinks the original writers were saying.
