Wheelchair and busses ?

I agree with the other poster and there is a section in the disABILITIES FAQs thread about buses that you should read. There is a link in my signature to the FAQs thread or you will find it toward the top of this board. You can fold the wheelchair on the bus, but you should still use the back door to enter using the lift or ramp. Even folded, wheelchairs are heavy and bulky so getting in the front and carrying it on would be difficult to do...

Thanks. I can't eat blue cheese anyway because of my other allergies. Besides it smells horrible! Yesterday I ate a small spoonful of dressing/stuffing and I am paying horribly for it. UGH! My sister makes the best and I just couldn't do Thanksgiving without it. Never again will I do that. I am in such pain. It wasn't even a tablespoon of it! Guess I'm super sensitive to the stuff. Chell, I know that a number of different places have pre-packaged brownies, that avoid a lot of common intollerences, but I don't know if they'd cover everything you need. If you give a restaurant advanced notice, they may be able to produce something specifically for your needs - this should be particularly easy if they've already got a recipe for it. Main Street bakery also do cakes for a number of different food...

Renting an ECV for the first time
Published (2009-11-24 10:06:00)
I use a couple of ponchos for covering me and my scooter when in Disney. I use a child size emergency poncho to cover the tiller and my feet and legs and the adult size one for the rest of me and the seat and battery area. If I have to leave my scooter outside for some reason (restaurants mainly) I cover the whole scooter with the ponchos so that in case it rains its protected, and it makes it easy to spot when you come out. Just bring some of...

Sure! A couple of years ago I was at Animal Kingdom with friends. Expedition Everest was new, so we all wanted to see the regular (vs. FastPass) queue but only I planned to ride. When we got to the loading platform, they told the CM they weren't riding and were directed to the exit. No problem, and we all got to see the queue and talk while we waited. Some lines don't 'take' an ECV (Pirates, Tower of Terror, Spaceship...

Disney's recommendation for mobility/stamina issues is to rent a wheelchair or ECV, raither than issuing a GAC. Perhaps you or your mom could operate the ECV during those periods when your dad needs to not sit?

It really does sound like an ECV would be a huge help to you this trip too. It's been estimated that most people walk at least 6 - 10 miles a day at Disney, and it sounds to me like it wouldn't be much fun for you to do that right now. Remember that if you over-do it on the first day, it might put you in a lot of pain for the rest of your trip, which would be utterly miserable. You said that ...

What kind of oxygen are you using? Is it a concentrator or a small tank? The reason I ask is, my FIL used to use a small, lightweight, hand carried tank at home, but he would use a concentrator for traveling. The issue with the concentrator is that it's heavy and awkward to lift in and out of tight spaces. Anyway, as for your question, there are probably lots of rides you can take ...

Probably the same people who complain during preboarding of aircraft, but if you boarded with them would complain also. Sorry you had to deal with this, and it put a damper on the “magic”. If transportation is provided for guests, they are required to provide equivilent transportation for guests with mobility needs. So, they do need to provide accessible buses to comply. Some off site places have limited bus service, only every few hours or a couple of times a day. I don't think the Downtown Disney resorts are in that category, but I'm not sure. At one point, they were using ...

You may not want true noise cancelling headphones. Besides the fact that they can be very expensive, they are really designed to cancel all outside sounds. For example, when piloting a light aircraft and wearing noise cancelling headphones I cannot hear the person next to me unless they are using the intercom. Shooter's muffs will cut down the loud and sharp sounds, but will not cut out ...

I don't know about where to rent one (maybe Apple Scooters?), but I have that scooter as my personal scooter and I LOVE it! It is a nice compact scooter with a good amount of power and battery length. It is easy to transport and to break apart. All you do to break it apart is remove the seat, lift out the battery, turn a knob on the front to drop the tiller and pull up on a lever by ...

I would use ice pack to get you to the resort (for medical reasons the airline has to allow as long as you declare right from the start that it is for that reason) and then take the medication to either bell services where they can put it in the fridge for you, or if you are headed to the parks take it to first aid.
