Disneyworld.com is showing availability for POP, $934 for those nights (full price). Not sure if there are any discount codes for those dates. Edit - there is a discount code available - $749 total. Looks like there is availability everywhere, crowds might not be bad this year.

I would do the value/deluxe split because I would jump at any chance to stay deluxe! I would just schedule the stay so you do value first and the move to the deluxe.
I think your son will probably love the values - they have the most kid friendly themes IMO. The deluxe would be more for your tastes, but kids usually like the better pool complexes at the deluxes.

It is very very easy to get around Ft. Wilderness. We stayed on loop 2500 in a cabin which was right by the smaller pool and the bus stop. You just go to the bus stop and the bus takes you where you need to go. There is a short walk from the bus stop to the marina where you catch the boat to MK. You might want to rent Grandma a scooter. I don't know why you would be sad about staying at Ft. ...

If you're staying at the Polynesian, yes - the fastest way to get to the Beach Club or Animal Kingdom Lodge would be to go to the Magic Kingdom and transfer to a bus bound for one of those 2 resorts.
It would be a killer walk, and require park admission - but to get to the Beach Club, you could also walk to the Ticket and Transportation Center, take the Epcot monorail, and walk through to ...

Shopping
The GCH also has houses some of the best resort shopping on property. On the second floor of the GCH is Trader Jacks, a shop containing merchandise, gifts, toys and other Disney themed items. There is also a pin-trading cart. Next to Trader Jack’s is Samoa Snacks. Here you will find sundries, film, snacks, beverages, wine, beer and newspapers and magazines.

This is aweful!
I suggest, if your ressies are cash and not DVC points, you call the BC directly and talk to the manager and explain your situation.
And how did they over book, they took your ressie.
Hope all works out for you.

It seems a little much to be at disney world and you and your DH are exploring the parks while your kids are in a hotel room with a sitter.
I think there is an option of hiring a sitter to accompany you to the parks? Would that work?
I just think of Disney as a family vacation for us to all spend time together. It is one thing to have a sitter at night when the kids would go to ...

When we had our kids with us we let them pick and that's when the Contemporary had the big game room so they always picked that. The Contemporary will always have a special place in my heart for family memories but now that we are empty nesters and have stayed at about 5 other resorts we just don't feel you can beat the Boardwalk and now exclusively rent points for the Boardwalk Villas. We love ...
