IZH with the 40 degree shoulder the Ackley has about a 7.2% volume increase over the .243 Winchester in water volume tests. Have not had a chance to shoot the rifle yet, but I'm really looking forward to spending some time with it. WF

Any Navy guys out there who can verify the following? I read an article recently that stated that iron cannon balls on men-of-war were stored next to the guns in "monkeys." A "monkey" was a metal plate with 16 round indentations. The cannon balls were stacked in a a square based pyramid on this plate with the top ball resting on four balls resting on nine resting on the bottom layer of sixteen. Brass monkeys...

From the GBO mortar and cannon forum. on: August 28, 2005, 04:41:16 AM Black Powder Forums / Blackpowder Mortar and Cannon Sponsored by Seacoast Artillery / Ball Monkey I'm sure many forum readers are familiar with the "controversy" surrounding the term "brass monkey". The story goes as follows: "In the heyday of sailing ships, all war ships and many freighters carried iron cannons. Those...

In addition when extra ball was allowed to be placed by the guns, it was pushed up against the bulwark and hald in place by putting it into rope rings which prevented it from rolling around the deck. Imagine a ship fighting a battle in rough weather with 24 or 36 pound iron balls rolling around the deck smacking you in the ankles! Or even worse, falling down a hatch and landing on someone! Moneys were used on land, not aboard ships.

Been through a few thousand with no fail to fires. They seem to be fairly consistent and the price has been right. Dave

Years ago, I had very lack-luster performance from Norinco ammo. That was in a 70's production Norinco SKS -open-sighted or scoped, no difference. Now, I have two better SKS rifles, a Yugo 'veteran' (not the pristine unissued version) and a '59 production 'psuedo-Sino-Soviet' Chinese Factory /26\ rifle. My Yugo is marginally more accurate than the /26\ SKS, but not by much - both are quite...

They don't chamber rifles for it anymore, and secondly the run on ammo, bullets, primers, powders, cases dies etc has made the availability of cases in certain calibers almost impossible to get. Reportedly the manufactures tool up and make X amount. It may be a year or two before they make a new run of cases; and I can assure you they will be gobbled up and hordered as soon as available. It is ...

That load sounds about right. 4198 is a great powder for smaller calibers like the .222 Rem and the .223, but load selection is larger calibers is sketchy and limited. I'd stick with what you've got.

Probably, but the neck will be short 0.092. The body of the case will need to be blown out by fire forming.
