If you look up your local council's website, you should be able to get the telephone number for Social Work out of hours. They can contact their emergency contact in DWP to get a payment to you if you are in need.

Benefits when leaving job ?
Published (2009-12-28 19:44:00)
A friend has walked out of her job. She has not yet been fired but is likely to be as I don't think she is capable of working. She is very depressed and will be seeing the doctor tomorrow for pills and hopefully counselling. I am hoping he will give her a sick note so she has a couple of weeks breathing space. What is her situation re benefits/housing benefit/c tax benefit if she can't go back yet? She has been getting tax credits...

Child Benefit Helpline

Child benefit shouldn't be taking that long to process! I would either get in contact with your local MP and see if he/she can hurry things along or go via the child benefit complaints dept. I would say write to them as funnily enough to lodge a complaint via telephone you have to use the "helpline" number. HM Revenue & Customs: How to complain to the Child Benefit Office

JSA payment over christmas??
Published (2009-12-20 22:34:00)
I take it you would have been due to sign on 30th December then? If yes then your money should be paid automatically there a few exceptions for advance payments e.g you currently declare part time work etc. You may want to call your BDC processing office to confirm the date the money should be in your account.

You can claim for help with your housing benefit and council tax benefits.
As you are claiming Contribution based JSA my understanding is that your
claim for HB and CTB will be based on your income and capital so you may
have to pay towards some of your rent or council tax (each local authority
have different amounts in their assessments). When you call the 0800 number
to make your claim to JSA ...

If you come clean and say that you've been ill, etc, it will be better than them finding out and coming to see you. I wouldn't go in there and use the word "fraud" though.... just say it was an oversite on your part due to being so ill and you're sorry.
Having a heart attack is a big deal! They'll probably just ask you to repay the money....

Hi,
Something is very wrong here
The property you inherited from your mother should not have effected your claim to Income Support untill after probate and then if it was empty and you were taking reasonable steps to sell it. I dont think you should have an overpayment and your claim should still be open and in payment now.
I think you need to make an appointment with CAB or Welfare ...

I've had these 'doubt has arisen' letters before. And in one case I also had an explanatory note on the system which they failed to check before sending their brutish letter.
It's a pretty typical example of jobcentre incompetence, I'm afraid.
I think you're very likely okay because you gave the perfectly valid reason that it was too late to apply, and because the adviser concurred and ...

They will be requesting a statement of reasons for the decision so they can see exactly why the decision was made; If they believe the first tier tribunal has erred on a point of law, they can apply for permission to appeal to the commisioner. They have one month from the date of the decision to request a statement of reasons and a further month to apply for permission to appeal from when the ...

What a carry on! Hopefully someone better than I will be along shortly...
When you received the letter refusing an increase did they also include a form to appeal with or indicate what you should do if you are unhappy with the decision?

Yes she should put in a claim for Local housing allowance (private rent) or housing benefit (if council rent). She will also need to apply for council tax benefit.
She would also need to inform tax credits that you are no longer together and close any joint claim and re apply as a single claim.
