For example, these so-called models that predict significant warming as a result of increasing man-made C02, how do they work? What variables do they take into account? How are the variables calculated? Do they include water vapor, for example? Perhaps most importantly, how do they...

You probably won't believe me when I say this NPR story on the hacked emails was one of the most fair and balanced I've heard on climate hysteria, but when James Hansen, one of the biggest propagandists for climate hysteria, says the gatekeepers are keeping him from publishing papers contrary to the "consensus" view, maybe you'll think the report is okay to at least listen to. Audio:...

Bizarre Tiger Woods Story

I guess this statment is the best that an army of lawyers and PR people could come up with over a 3-day period. I'm sure he was counseled to tell the story and get it over with rather than let this bleed on and on and on. That he finally decided to take this approach after such a long delay must mean that the story is probably about as bad as people have been surmizing. Unfortunately for Tiger, this won't get him anywhere. He's...

Without knowing what was done to alter the original data, it is difficult to assess if anything of value was discarded. I do know, however, that there is absolutely no excuse for destroying raw data. Even though this was done at a...

The Fifth War
Published (2009-11-28 00:53:00)
Articles like this one need to be challenged on several levels. First, the author is not a historian, he is a political analyst attempting to categorize the wars -- into OK and not OK, by a set of standards which in themselves are unsupported assumptions, or 'givens'. Second, before discussing the conclusions, the premises need to be laid bare. The 'unsoundness' of the Domino Theory is one example. Some time back we had a...

Seventeen here, not counting cats and dog, with two missing the call of duty. Lots of food left over. Everyone seemed pleased. Kids were beautiful together.

Bizarre Tiger Woods Story
Published (2009-11-29 00:50:00)
As a Tiger fan, I'm disappointed, but not surprised. It was reported that there was no alcohol involved. The first thought that came to mind when I tried to come up with an explanation for him going out sober at that hour was that he probably had a fight with his wife.

Just for the record it is properly Jonathan, Lord Sacks. He is not the son of an Earl, Marquess or Duke. Am I the only person here who knows Peerage Law?

Do you have a link? And what has the "Aussie PM" to do with anything in Switzerland? Possibly apropos of this, I noticed yesterday in some media source a bald statement, which I'm just assuming is true (if not, please inform), that there are Muslim communities, i.e. mosques, in every state in the US now. That includes Utah, Wyoming, you know, middle-of-nowhere USA as well as NYC, etc. I ...

No surprise. It frankly still scares the hell out me how many people actually think this is about saving the planet.

The debt is exploding because we're still stuck in the unreality mode Ronald Reagan put us in, whereby perfectly predictable increases in expenditures are met not by increasing but by cutting taxes. Those who turn purple over Medicare and Social Security on philosophical grounds have made a nice game of bringing things to a crunch on the cynical assumption that it is the big programs that are ...

There is definitely more to this story, because how can someone just run over a fire hydrant and then hit a tree...? It makes no sense. Either alcohol/drugs were involved (keep in mind this all happened at 2:30am or so) or it gets even stranger (like the theory Jack posted). -G

From the article: The revised figures were kept, but the originals — stored on paper and magnetic tape — were dumped to save space when the CRU moved to a new building. Oh, and I can tell you that destroying magnetic tape to save space is not a valid reply. Magnetic tape is super cheap and one can store a massive amount of data on a single tape - especially the type of raw data CRU destroyed.

I say bring it on. By all means let them turn their resources to a movement to repeal (and take them away from the movement to defeat). Rotsa ruck.

Krauthammer wrote: The better choice is targeted measures that attack the inefficiencies of the current system one by one -- tort reform, interstate purchasing and taxing employee benefits. It would take 20 pages to write such a bill, not 2,000 -- and provide the funds to cover the uninsured without wrecking both U.S. health care and the U.S. Treasury. Well, he says (correctly) that ...

The Fifth War by Hendrik Hertzberg November 30, 2009 In the sixty-four years since V-J Day, the United States has fought five wars big enough to be styled “major.” Two of these, Vietnam (1962-75, by the most common reckoning) and Iraq (2003-11, with any luck), were conceived in sin. Their beginnings were fatally compromised by deceptions that congealed into lies, abetted by profound ...
