I was going to meet up with some moto-pals, have breakfast somewhere along the way, and hit the show when the doors open on Sunday morning. My friends are riding over from Alameda and I'm in Frisco, so it will either be a meet-up on the peninsula, or they'll pass through Frisco (Rocco's! Tex, SP, and Commo can attest to the quality of the eats) or we'll just meet at the show and have lunch afterward. Anyone who wants in on...

Complain to the traffic division in charge of the light. They can adjust the sensors to pick up bikes. Also check your state statute - some states have langauge in their laws that allows mbikes to proceed after once cycle if the light never turns in their favor. If so, next time cite the statute to the offending cop. err- Officer. There 4+ pages of reading material on advrider http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=520015 this issue....

Welcome Ken. Love your story.... Mines a little more mainstream - rode sport bikes for 20 years, got to thinking I might orphan my children, so sold 'em (the bikes, not the kids!) - then a few years later watched LWR and my blood just boiled, I HAD the get a BMW ADV bike. The Dakar was an obvious choice for me ($$ and type of use) and it's the best bike I've ever owned... And yep, this ...

Glad to hear you're not too banged up. I've had 2 low sides and 1 ran into the back of a car in stop and go traffic. Oh yea, I don't count the ones in the dirt. Hang in there. Maybe these will help.

Sssssshhhhheeeeeaaaaattttt!!!! I won't be there, but I will be pissed about missing the show. But make sure you don't pay for parking, allow yourself an hour to walk through all the bikes that will be there in the parking lot. That's almost worth the price of admission just to see what was rode in. See if BMW of SF has cheap tickets for the show. SP and Yeti won't sleep for three days ...

I think you will enjoy the safety course. After riding for 40 years I took it and found out that I had a whole lot to learn. It was the best $250 I ever spent. I ride like you describe. For me the Xcountry would not be the right bike. It is suited more to off road and has a small tank. For about the same money you can get a GS that is better suited to the road. I have a 99 Funduro and I ...

A friend (acquaintance actually) has one. It's a pretty sweet ride. Big issues I have noticed/heard is that it doesn't seem to be as reliable as the F bikes, and needs more frequent regular maintenance as well. IIRC I think you need to do service with valves etc. every 5000km (3000mi) as opposed to 10000km on the F. Course if it's an enduro machine for mainly off-road use, and you're not ...
