SPOILERS: A cop shows up at his place and you think he's found them and they're busted. He reads a comic Big Daddy wrote which illustrated his tragic past. The comic becomes an animated sequence. You realize the cop was his partner and he's only there to warn him about the hit on his head.

Seriously, do you realize that you're arguing that movies have to be dumb? That's amazing. I'm really happy for you.

A nice little excerpt from Rebecca Winters Keegan's authorized Cameron bio which is soon to be printed. This excerpt is about the making of The Abyss http://techland.com/2009/12/14/james...ing-the-abyss/ Quote: Dr. Peter Bennett, an expert on the physiology of diving, visited the set to advise the filmmakers on how much their bodies could take. At the end of the day, Cameron and Giddings often had to hang at 10 feet under the surface for...

I don't know if that's true. Ebert followed it very closely, even going to the Avatar Day preview (which he was severely underwhelmed by), but loved the final film and gave it 4 stars. I'm not sure overexposure has had anything to do with the reactions one way or another.

Two great performances (Maguire, Portman). And a serviceable one (Gyllenhaal). Tobey Maguire probably has got a Supporting Actor Oscar nom in the bag.
I didn't feel fully invested in the film itself for some reason, though. When Maguire wasn't on screen, the tension faded into the background.

I don't think you'll get any backlash. You stayed out of the debate, saw the movie for yourself and wrote your honest opinion of it.
I enjoyed your review and I look forward to seeing this movie for myself. I've never seen a film in 3D at the theater before. This seems like a good one to start with.

The movie peaks way too early--when Marcus and Kyle are at the gas station (which, same station from the end of T1?), the movie starts firing on all cylinders and is great for about 10 or 15 minutes. After that, it's (mostly) good, but doesn't get back to those heights.
Also, despite that fact that it was utterly ridiculous, I liked the GnR bit.

Damn you for reviewing such a movie so early! I just barely managed to resist really reading the review (skimmed... couldn't resist). Don't wanna make the wait worse than it already is. #1 film I'm looking forward to next year based on the hype.

Really enjoyed this when I saw it a few months ago (being an Englifh film, we obviously got it a while back). Worryingly accurate on one or two figures of the Blair administration, too.
Armando Iannucci seems to be very much a rising star in comedy. I remember when he was still just doing radio.

Sounds good. I think I'll be seeing this on Sunday. I'm sure it'll be a satisfactory time.

Some dude recorded the new Transformers trailer and put it up on Youtube. No AVATAR trailer before his screening of Wolverine.
FOX has got to be getting a little nervous by now. There should have been at least a teaser last Christmas for this.

devincf I love that the 400 million dollar movie at BNAT got way upstaged by the scrappy, low budget indie crazy movie.

DrewAtHitFix No hype, folks, and no doubt... "Kick Ass" won BNAT. Decisively. That screening will be the stuff of legend.

Nice review. And just in time too. I won't be able to see this film until it opens next week... but the other thread is nothing but an argument.
