White Sox acquire Juan Pierre

With Pierre's departure, the Dodgers are now paying $17 million in 2010 to players no longer on the team. Oh, but Ned Colletti just got a 5 year extension from the broke owner. Good times. Good times.

If he continues to suck on defense and be mediocre at the plate, yeah, dump him or let him walk next off-season.

SF Giants Hot Stove
Published (2009-12-15 14:38:00)
Let's see where the Giants are right now... because honestly I have no freaking idea what they are doing at a lot of positions. Catcher: Molina is gone and Posey might start, or maybe bring someone in and start Posey at AAA First base: Is Ishikawa still around? Are we just waiting for the inevitable Adam LaRoche signing? Second base: Freddy Sanchez was re-signed, he'll probably go here Shortstop: Renteria had off-season elbow...

I may be in the minority, but I kindof like this for the O's. They're a young team with a boatload of young starters, and I really feel like having a solid arm at the back of the pen for stability might do the youngsters some good. And the young reliever arms in the Baltimore system with closer potential can learn with a little less pressure on them now (I'm looking at you, Kam Mickolio). I ...

Based on his numbers in the minors, he is a definitely a good hitter, but last year was a very high isoPower.
He's a real "what if" case. He was already 23 when drafted, and never had a problem in the minors.
I don't know if this is a "real" stat, but his HR/XBH seems too high in the majors. I'm guessing he'll get more doubles, less HRs.
I'll say
.280/.390/.460, 150 G, 20 HR, 10 SB

looks like it's for one year, and that's pretty shocking considering his history. For whatever the reason, it seems his "standing" just went down the crapper while other benched players (i.e. Juan Pierre) found a willing audience.

All the NL only leagues I've been in have had #2 and it's the easiest way to deal with interleague trades, imo.
You get the guy at auction, he gets dealt in-season to the AL, you keep his stats for the year but can't keep him the next year.
There are tons of other ways I've seen it done, but all are confusing and/or unfair.

They are pretty close as prospects. One factor to consider is that Wallace was just drafted in June 2008, so he was moved very quickly through the system to reach AAA in 2009. Taylor was drafted in 2007, and took a slower route to AAA.
It seemed like Wallace took a little while to figure out a new level, but once he did, he really smoked the ball. By the time the AAA playoffs came ...

Ummmm.... OK. Kenny Williams, you are a never-ending source of amusement. Any other crappy Dodger outfielders you'd like to sign?
Actually I don't think it's a bad deal for either side, assuming the Dodgers have a new plan for their 4th outfielder.
So I guess this makes Q the DH, Teahen the 3B, Beckham the 2B, and Pierre/Rios/Andruw the outfield?

Sell high.
He's moving to the second worst park in terms of park factors and you can expect a regression in a variety of areas, not the least of which is BABIP (which you mentioned), but potentially also HR/FB since he's a flyball pitcher moving to a pretty brutal park for home runs.
Honestly, this guy might be in the mid 5.00s in terms of ERA this season. Be very careful.
