Even worse than the military guys are the western readers. Man, you need to know not only about guns, but guns from 1875. I made sure I did my research into that when I wrote my two westerns because I'd been warned how uppity readers in the field could be.

Me too, there used to be a really good one called Behind the Black Mask I think but it's been down for about a year. Not like POH so muchg as they took one author and interviewed him for about an hour or so. Very well done and it is sorely missed. I would love to find another like it.

I picked up the DVD of the first season of Boomtown and plan to watch it over the holidays. I enjoyed the episodes of this series that I saw back in 2002 and now can get to see the ones I missed. Anyone else remember this short-lived series that was cancelled very soon into its second season? Boomtown looked at crime from various point of view. Donnie Wahlbeg and Gary Basaraba were regulars.

EMPTY MILE is my most anticipated book of 2010. I loved both of Stokoe's previous novels, and re-read HIGH LIFE last spring. Not for the week of stomach, but not gratuitous either IMO. I bought COWS when it came out, and will definitely read it again in preparation for EMPTY MILE. Tom, let me know if you're accepting bribes in exchange for the galleys of the new one!

I am reading John D MacDonald's The Deep Blue Good-By, embarrassingly enough this is the first time I have read any of the Travis McGee books. I shouldn't have waited so long, this is brilliant. You would never know in reading it that it was published first in 1965. What a good book.

I haven't tackled any of the novels, but I recall Lindsey specifically saying in an interview that he was changing tactics and moving away form the supernatural plotline because there was so much criticism about it.

Ed--I agree. I'm not anywhere near an expert on firearms, but even I have picked up writer errors in that area. It's not difficult to get the correct information, and I think that now, with the internet out there, fewer of these errors are being made. What I dislike equally is reading a crime novel that is overloaded with gun minutiae. In these cases, the author just wants to impress the ...

Tom, I have three of the Factory series books in my TBR pile, but want to make sure I've got my mind right before reading them. Ken Bruen talked about D. Raymond in one of his books which prompted me to look for them.
