NEED HELP Pulley issues

The pulleys you have on the crank are for a short water pump with power steering, and both water pump pulleys you have shown are for a long water pump. One is for A/c and the other is not. You'll need to get the correct water pump pulley for a short water pump. The pulley closest to the balancer is where the alternator belt goes, and the outer is for the power steering pump belt. So the correct water pump pulley will line up with the...

drvtrain question

it sounds like you have a combination of problems. theres quite a few things things you need to check. whats the condition of the tune up parts? change the fuel filter. it will probably help with your engine running out of steam at 3k. it should run up to around 5k rpm no problem. the stalling thing sounds like the tcc lock up clutch not releasing. there shouldnt be any idle adjustment needed. the only reason you would need to adjust anything...

Runs but has no power

Easy enough to manually open the choke valve and move the throttle to see if secondaries are opening. There's a bellcrank (secondary lockout lever) that gets sticky and prevents the secondaries from opening. Look at picture number 6 in this site. http://www.hemmings.com/mus/stories/...feature20.html

Rear Gears
Published (2009-11-25 00:40:00)
I've seen folks love their 3.42s; it seems like a great compromise gear. But the rear gear is just one part of the whole and it all needs to work. So, do have an OD tranny, stock tire size, what's your cam like, and so forth? Here's a calculator that you can use to get more info.

Hey guys I ended up buying the engine from the guy I got the truck from, its a 355 with 882 heads 9.5-1 and a 280h cam, all balanced and blueprinted. Im gonna run a 650 holley and my headers and a 1900-2100 stall converter... do you think that will be ok or should I get a smaller cam? Thanks

well you need the correct pulleys and brackets for the style of water pump that is on the motor. short and long water pumps have different pulley and bracket set ups.

First off good luck on the build and second get the best heads you can afford for street. You might want to look into some vortec castings or brodix make a good flowing street head and will make more power than any stock head. If your going to wheel it look for a good split pattern cam that will help with lowend grunt. Zero decked you might need to go with a bigger combustion chamber to keep comp...

I would advance the timing some to 8 or maybe 10 and see if it still does it. Backfiring through the tailpipe is unburned fuel dumped into the hot exhaust. So check your spark plugs gap. They need a wider gap but I forget what most guys are using. I think I gapped mine at .045. Also, check for any vacuum leaks.
There's other things that can cause backfiring, including ignition stuff like ...

I would go for the 454. It's going to be less " high strung" than the 383 would be, and it would naturally have more torque.

I can't imagine why not, as long as the belts fit.

Hi Mickman. Welcome to the board. You are correct, a round pattern 6 bolt 205 case with 32 spline input gear will mount directly to the back of your NV4500. It's a nice stout combo. -steve

You can swap the head for an earlier one with removable manifold. It's a straight swap. That would give you intake and header options for increased performance.
There is no readily available cross flow head out there though.

Air pumps were one of the early emissions devices. They started implimenting these things in 1966. It's one of those nifty devices that Californians were seeing long before it hit the rest of the country.

I don't remember the specs on the LT4 cam, but I really like the cam that GM used in the Ram Jet 350 and the HT383. It's the same cam but in the Ram Jet they used 1.6 rockers. I've had experience with this cam in a 355, flat tops, Vortec heads and 1.5 rockers and IMO it had good low to mid range torque. You can often times pick up this cam on ebay as new take outs for ~$80. I don't remember the ...

I ran a set of the small Darts . Basically the same head that comes with the Holley systemax kit on the truck in the avatar and had good luck . It was couples with a Xm 270 HR and a 650 Demon vacuum secondary carb . I think they were 167 cc intake runner size . found them on craigslist for a smokin deal .

Re: Nos Q-Jet Carburetor?
Depending how old it is, it might be a good idea to replace any gaskets on it, as they are most likely dry by this point. At the very least, replace the accelerator pump plunger and the top gasket. That is if this is truly a NOS piece and has been sitting for a long time.
Also, it may be set up for a ...
