all you need is an intake set. you will also need a carb gasket but any auto parts store has this stuff on the shelf. ms90314-2 is the fel pro part number for the gaskets you need. then just grab a carb gasket while your there in the store. remember to just throw the rubber end gaskets in the trash and use a 1/4 inch bead of rtv on the ends

IMHO, Holleys are far more tunable - but are likely to require tuning to be right on. The Street Avenger and Street HP carbs are really great street carbs. The Edelbrock Performer is a pretty "tolerant" carb - it'll deliver decent results across a very broad range of engines with little tuning. If you're looking for perfection tuning, IMHO it's not possible to get there with the Performer due to the design....

What's that laying in front of you in the picture? Do you not get any smoke when you first crank it up? That's usually the first indication of valve guides or seals problem.

I've heard the "manifolds for low end" story before, and I don't believe it for a second! If you go with some large headers (2" or larger for example) you will lose some power on the low end. For low end go with some 1 3/4". Or better yet some tri-y headers. These will maximize low end and midrange torque. For a street driven vehicle that is where you spend most of your time. Manifolds are quiet...

No! It's a high pressure hydraulic hose. You can have them made or buy them at any place that makes hydraulic hoses. Look in the yellow pages. They make a lot of hoses for heavy equiment and can make just about any type of hose with fittings that you need.

First off good luck on the build and second get the best heads you can afford for street. You might want to look into some vortec castings or brodix make a good flowing street head and will make more power than any stock head. If your going to wheel it look for a good split pattern cam that will help with lowend grunt. Zero decked you might need to go with a bigger combustion chamber to keep comp...

edelbrocks dont tend to like anything more than about 5.5 psi. on a stock engine gph isnt really an issue. did you already get an intake to do the swap from fuel injection. its possible you can run a mechanical pump. you have to remove the cover plate and check to make sure the hole goes already through to the cam. if it does get yourself a 15 dollar mechanical fuel pump and be done with it. you ...

for a 4000lb truck with a carbed v8 and the aerodynamics of a brick 10mpg isnt terrible. you definately can do be a bit better but how much better will depend a lot on your driving style and conditions. a higher rear or overdrive trans isnt gonna help you a whole lot if you dont do a lot of highway driving. around town the lower gear can help because the engine doesnt have to work near as hard to...

I used a small triangular file and filed a mark at TDC on one of mine. Probably can mark it with a hacksaw blade or the tape as you mentioned. Once the timing is set, it pretty much stays there and it's not micron critical anyway.

You'll be lucky if anyone just happens to have a p.s. setup for a 250 laying around. They're hard to find. It may require some driving around and hitting the junkyards to see if you can locate one. Try to go to the out of the way small yards that may have some older vehicles laying around. All the big fancy ones specialize in new stuff only. I got mine off an El Camino but I've ...

The "old style" mounting pads will absolutely bolt up to your later block. This is the quickest, cheapest, easier way to go. You can, if you want, go with the late model towers, and the later model "clamshell" mounts, in your 72 chassis. Either way is good, with the newer mont having a slight edge in long life reliability, and its' through bolt makes eingine swaps quicker.

It's not about static compression, it's all about dynamic compression. That is the resultant compression from the cam you choose. Longer duration cams can bleed down a high static compression to a dynamic compression that is fine with pump gas. The dynamic compression of a motor is the deciding factor in whether or not a motor will run on premium pump gas. Here is one article on dynamic ...

yes and no. just about any set of headers will fit any sbc. the difference comes in the port sizes. they will all bolt up. chances are you have a set of 1 5/8 long tubes which is probably the absolute most common size headers. since they are for a truck in the first place i doubt they have giant tubes or anything like that. you should be good to go on just bolting them on and being fine.

I think the first thing you need to do is step back, take a breath and give your wide band a break. The problems you are having don't need the wide band just yet. To me, that's more of a fine tuning item and you have some basic problems. I'm guess that we are working on either a 3310 or an 80508 carb. How old is it? Has it had other owners? Sometimes, the best thing you can do is to take a ...
