I'm right there with you on not being able to hit one. I about wore out a borrowed 20 gauge single-shot Winchester 37 before I finally hit one. In that regard for me very little has changed.

Now that I think about it . . . they do kind of have the same colors (ha!) . . . all black and white. They're very tasty!!! Medium size ducks . . . hard to hit like teal. They fly low and fast! Merry Christmas Curt

I suspected that's what they were, but my eyes just can't make many of the small avatars out, (not just yours), even with my glasses on. I've never shot a bufflehead, but have seen flocks of them on the bay here, and on the santee lakes in S. Carolina when I lived there. I didn't know they were a good-eating duck ... but whenever somebody around my area bags one, they typically want to get it mounted anyway. I know that if...

OK, here you go. I flew snipe Sunday and my wife took some good video. This will give you an idea of how the hunting goes. Doc did not catch a snipe but he ended up catching a dove that flushed after numerous stoops on snipe. You'll see a blistering stoop in slow motion that shows the speed of a peregrine. The dove catch is very blurry but you'll see him grab a bird in the air. You'll want to watch this video in HD mode and full...

SS, Merry Christmas to you as well. Your absence has been mentioned and we are glad to see that you haven't thrown away the computer, bought an island, and retired to a life away from it all. For your dedication to your commitment and patience I hope you find the fields to be heavy with birds. Skip

Curt welcome to the forum. We have at least three Texans who post here. Hunt the shore lines on lakes and ponds. Marshy land is a good bet also. Check out the hunting section and look back for the snipe hunts. The archive section is a good place also. WE love to read about all hunting trips and pictures are a bonus. Your dog may be a big help! Dick

Yes! Finally a snipe falconer on here! If I ever get into falconry I would pursue snipe. It must be thrilling! Where I live in the west of Ireland I think it would be ideal ground for catching snipe. I had read that a merlingXperegrine cross would probably be the ideal bird, am I correct? Where I live the wild merlin hunts snipe, and I reckon so do the peregrines. They are an amazing ...
