shift lever/linkage bushing
Published (2009-11-06 12:43:00)
251 711 207. You may want to look at a shift bushing kit for a golf. There is a similar bushing that can be adapted. It is easiest to remove the fuel tank when replacing. It snaps into the bracket on the body and the shift rod keeps it tight in the bracket. I replaced mine 3 years ago and it disintigrated already. I have since upgraded to a new transmission and the later shift linkage.

I swapped my air cooled to water cooled 2.0 Jetta gas engine. If you do this, you need to decide if engine will be mounted at 15* (as per stock angle of engine in the '86 Jetta) or at 50* (as per Diesel Vanagon amount angle) Do some searching. You will find info on that. Basically, 15* mount means fabricating stuff (engine carrier, altering engine cover) and using an adaptor (KEP). 50* means using diesel Vanagon parts which makes the...

The vanagon makes a great changing room with plenty of space to hang up wet duds in. Especially appreciated on those cold-weather playdays! Just wish I could stand up inside to get my drytop off, no pop-top (aaaargh!). Plus the boats fit inside, no need for racks for local trips. It's a paddler's palace.

During the colder months, my 1.9L wasserboxer will drip 2-3 drops of coolant per side each night. Temps go up in the spring, dripping stops. I'll add less than a pint of coolant every other month or so in the winter. Not worth getting concerned about for me.

Hi Pianobrooks, welcome to The Samba. I'd say your best bet would be to ditch the motor and look for another one locally to install or rebuild. Taking a chance on that motor could lead to a ton of lost money and time. Here's a suggestion. You could buy another rig and use the motor and parts to fix up your 84 westy. Here's an 85 1.9L on Vashon that may be a good deal: http://...

I would be concerned about effectiveness of a driving light mounted that low. Fog lights are best when mounted very low, but a driving light is better up high so it can cast a long beam. Also, I would be very worried about damage from debris. No matter your choice, you will definitly need to run a dedicated cicuit with it's own relay. The stock system isn't adequate for the stock ...

I don't know if my plan is even close to what your thinking but here goes. First off mine is an 85 GL sunroof. I wanted to set it up for some short camping trips. So first thing I did was install a Z-bed, the full width one. Next thing I am working on is a kitchen of sorts. I have a sink with all the needed plumbing and a 2 burner stove. I intend to build a single wooden structure that ...

I like them! I am suprised no one else has commented. Find out their load limits when you call, from what I've heard a lot of the 5 star type rims crack under a heavy load like a vanagon. Not sure what your MV weighs.

I think Carfax can protect you from some fraud. However, a clean Carfax is no guarantee. If I were selling a dirty car, I would run a carfax on it, and would make sure the results were part of the story I told to the seller so when they run the Carfax later, I would look honest.

diesels are smog exempt in california. i had a conversion done from gas to diesel, and there were no issues with the dmv. i have not brought one into california already converted, so i would not know if that would be a problem. maybe someone else can chime in.

I don't see these wheels available from GW or Van Cafe. GW has 16x7 steelies, but they're for a syncro and would require spacers. Perhaps somebody has a MB part # for a 16x7 steelies with proper 2wd offset?

What is normal? 1.8 liter engine, runs just over the led. Just put in a new 80 degree thermostat. All the water flows into the water pump and out the head right? I just took it for a test run up a really long hill, pushing it hard. At the top I got out and felt the radiator, barey warm. Then when I returned to the shop I put the IR gun on the hose feeding the thermostat and it read about 140 F....
