I made the backings for my truck kick panels out of peg board. I cut them with a jig saw.

I have a 1641 in my Baja and when I pulled the heads at 75,000 miles to replace the pushrod tubes I pulled the cylinders to reseal the cylinder base. While the cylinder was off I measured the bore and the most I out of round I could find was about .0005". I honed the cylinders and reinstalled them. I can't believe anyone will run a 1641 harder that I do, so I wouldn't worry about the cylinders. I have found the extra power...

[quoteIMHO a 1641 kit is just a way for a lazy man to brag 'it's got a big-bore motor!!!'[/quote] So...there's nothing wrong with braggin...it's what people do with our cars all the time, it's built into our DNA as men...if it's not a motor were braggin about it's our 1600 watt stereo or how much crap our toilet will flush in a single flush...we'll always brag always!!...it's what we do best VWM

Welcome, Russ. My condolences to Brad and his family. It says a lot about the VW community in general and thesamba forums in particular that a guy like Brad, born in the US several years after the last VW Beetle was imported here, could become an important figure in the classic VW community. Hats off to him, Everett, and all the other moderators for managing this important resource.

E-brake cable question
Published (2009-12-23 10:08:00)
If you're going to cut and splice the cable just use cable clamps. A clevis rig would have be twice as long. You'd have to cut away even more guide tube. The main reason the cable ends don't sit flat is that instead of adjusting the brake at the drum people just keep tightening the cable at the handle until the nuts are almost bottomed. The fittings fit pretty flat when the cable is the right length and the adjusting nuts near...

I too am sorry to hear about Brad's passing, but he is now in a better place and free of pain. Welcome to the Kit Car/Dune Buggy forum, Russ! This board, the General VW board and Off-Topic are where most of my posts are from, which basically spells out my VW interests: primarily kit cars and giving out general advice, although I could never pass up a nice Barndoor bus, low-light Ghia or pre-fatty Bug. After our loss last night, we needed a new moderator in The Off Road forum, and the Fiberglass and Kit Cars forums. I volunteered.
I am not that experienced with dune buggies, sand rails. and kit cars, but do have over 45 years experience with VW's in general.
I do have a 65 Baja Bug that I hacked together from pieces and a car I had sitting around. 1600cc single port engine, and stock ...

I would go to Ron Francis Wire Works and buy some new pigtails with headlight connectors. The Chinese garbage is too small for halogen lights and will eventually overheat, deform and lose the connection.
I always run my headlights through a relay. My thoughts are that the universal headlight switches were designed for regular sealed beams and not the newer halogen headlights therefore not ...

You need an electronic flasher for l.e.d.'s. 2 or 3 prong depends what system you're using.

Just do a Google search, something will turn up. The Bradley GT club site is now considered toxic, but there are other sites that can surely help you out.
Worst come to worst, build up some aluminum strapping to a frame work shape and cover it with lightweight sheet polycarbonate. Paint the edges black and rivet it down.
A clear NACA duct for cooling AND cool factor and done!...

Because a clutch cable has a loop built into it on one end, would it be possible to use one of those - hook the loop on the caliper end, with the bolted side coming out at the parking brake? I'm not sure what the length difference may be. If not, a custom cable could be made by a boat shop or locashracing.

Why not use sheet aluminum or some kind of sheet plastic?
If plasitc, something like lexan but it doesn't have to be clear. I know the local plastics dealer sells scraps for pretty cheap. That may work for you.

Still working on the Avenger project. It has made some good headway in the past few weeks. I am just about done the chassis and came toa little bump. I think I get it, but am not sure, so I thought I would confirm.
My chassis is a combination of things. I think it is a 1967 (I have the VIN covered at the moment to prevent the Herculiner from obscuring it), because it has a ball joint ...

should i mount the new beam to the car, then install the torsions and all the break parts- arms-ect or switch everything over sitting on the ground next to each other?
Right now i have the whole front stock beam off the car in a complete section sitting on the ground....

Fellas;
I took my Manx II body to a fiberglass repair shop and had all the holes filled/repaired as well as gel coat. When I sat the body on to a Berrien chassis, the fit was hideous. After 40 years, I surmise the sun and elements have had their way.
I have made a couple of 'L' brackets with 10" legs that I was thinking of connecting with light chain and a turn-buckle to pull ...

Is it just me or does anybody else ever feel this way working on these mechanical contraptions.
One of my coil grounds got onto my new carb linkage and I had a direct battery to ground through the coil to the points. Well you can guess what that did. I was amazed to find out that Autozone had points and a condensor in stock for a 68 VW bug so thats fixed now.
I was checking my ...
