The pistons are an alloy, just chisel away the top of the piston until just the wrist pin is left there. You could also heat the cylinder with a torch to expand it and release the rings but keep in mind that IF you ignite the case, you are in for an experience!! It will be a fire you cannot put out! If you are in a hurry just break out the bondo from the 6 slots that hold the grill to the dash, install the grill, and drive around until you get the car painted.

The 205/65 rear tires have a diameter close to the stock 5.60-15 (or 155/80) rear tires. They will not change the gearing.

A tennis ball works well. Just cut a slot in it and slip it onto the latch.

A local friend had his black 54 beetle stolen overnight here in Vancouver B.C., http://dubberz.com/forum/index.php?topic=35781.0 has some pictures of it. There's a $1000 reward if anyone starts trying to part it out or as a unit. Thanks for keeping your eyes and ears open!

If you need full quarter panels, your only options are to find good used ones from a donor car, or get real lucky and find some NOS VW ones. Wolf at wolfparts.com makes the rear half of the rears, I have seen them firsthand and they are spot-on.
As for heater channels, there are some repros out there with varying degrees of correct details, but non are as good as original VW metal. If ...

WOW!!! 80s flashback bigtime dude!!!
If you want to put an original radio and speaker back in it will be a lot of work. If you want it to look like an original dash with no radio that would be easy, just drill the holes for the radio block off plate and install the speaker grill with the mesh and at a glance it will look OG. Most will not realize the speaker hole is filled....

Different strokes for different folks I guess, but I, personally, have a hard time with powder coated pans and $50,000 or $100,000 VW's. I've owned 5 Bugs since 1968 and probably still don't have $50 grand in total but have enjoyed (almost) every minute of them and have many great memories. It sounds as if you want to make a driver out of it. I have repro Sprint Stars on my 54 because I like...
