If it were me, I would buy a well built and counterbalanced 1776 with some small dual carbs. In a beetle it should be pretty peppy and should go up Parley's Canyon in 4th with the stock tranny and still get decent fuel economy. Driving a beelte is sort of like having sex. It is not the first one done that wins.

You should be fine - that's exactly what I've used in my '71 Convertible for about 4 years, when I swapped over my 1835DP. That engine came out of my '70, so I had to remove the PP center ring - like your photo shows - for my 1971. And I do use the three-arm pressure plate like in your photo; for some reason I still like that style better than diaphragm PP, don't know if anyone sells new finger type these days or not....

It is also all about how you drive, if I make a concious decision to focus on mileage, like on a long trip, I can make 35-37, if I just upgraded something and am having fun around town, I can make 15-20 if I try. Steady foot is THE KEY. Accel pump drinks the gas..

Somewhere in my endless searching for information I came across a link that had a stereo sub-woofer in the back under the rear window. I believe it was a 68 or earlier. The thing that made it stand out was the sub-woofer had a VW emblem over it. And somewhere in the body of the thread it said where they had purchased it. I'm going to put a new stereo in my wife's bug for x-mas and I think she ...

If you were going to buy a new engine and tranny what would you go with? I like the 2180cc. But as far as companies I have no idea what would be a good choice. I can't afford a Berg 5 speed so what are my other options. Go easy, I'm on a budget.

My father-in-law left behind a 1973 standard that I am thinking of turning into a project. The car is in good condition and has a new engine. I like the cal-look but can't find many pictures of late model cal-lookers. I was hoping some of you could post pics of your cars or let me know where I could go to see some good examples. Thanks, Keith

I am a little confused about what tires to put on my '72 super. I bought the super low kit from topline , but now I'm not sure how low I want to go. I read the Topline site and it says max tire size is 135/15 for 3-5 in drop. I assume that means the standard 80 aspect ratio. Would I be able to use a wider lower profile tire? I am also reading that lower profile tires in the rear may not be ...

OK guys and gals I need some opinions here. I have been looking for a Bug for my wife for sometime, but most of what I have found for the money has been "golden junk" if you know what I mean. On my old '71 Super, I had a set of plastic rain guards that bolted on over the decklid vents. They still allowed airflow but kept rain out.
