What year? A few screws and maybe a clip. The newer the car, the more difficult.

How bad is the sparking you are seeing? A tiny amount of sparkage where the brushes ride the commutator, seen in the dark is OK, but lots of sparks visible in daylight is certainly not. What kind of regulator do you have - an old points style or a new solid-state type? -Andy

They're in here: Beetle FAQ "Sticky's"- *Read before posting* There's less scrolling for people who surf on mobile devices. Also its now more of a Bookmark topic. It's easy to add worthwhile topics to and I can not put topics in other forums in that are relevant.

Looking at a 67' bug today....

Okay, first of all, it looks like a '68, not a '67. And he has no way to know if it's been in an accident before he got it or not. The purple paint suggests it was, or significant drug use by a prior owner. It has an alternator (good, though indicating a likely engine swap from a later car), and lots of chrome (bad, indicates the PO liked loos over function). Same for chrome eyelids, power pulley, fuel filter in the engine bay,...

I'm a little confused because all my lines are already steel, but it sounds like you are trying to pull a rubber tube off of a steel one, or something like that. I suggest loosening the bleeder valve, if you are going to do this. When you pull the rubber tube off, it lengthens the line, overall, decreasing pressure, making it really hard to pull it off. It's hard to explain, so I hope you get it. lol.

Double Connector wire question

there should be power coming from the fuse box to the brake light switch. the other wire going back to your tailights is not live untill you hit your brakes.

Quote: Hey guys I'm looking at a buying a 67' bug. Cool! You just don't see the ol' sixty-seven footers that often anymore I realize you've already decided to pass on this one, but if I may use this case as an example: How do you know the motor only has twenty-seven thousand miles on it? It may or may not be intentional, but the way the ad is worded implies this without stating it plainly. The odometer reading is...

if its 12 volt you can go to any parts store and get a standard 12 volt coil and it will work fine but if its 6 volt it may be a little harder to find but im sure a parts store can order one for you.

There's a flare on each outlet from the silencer box.
Insert the tail pipes to where you want them and slide the "donuts" over the pipes all the way up to the aforementioned flares. Then add a single metal ring onto each pipe (3rd item down on your picture) and finally the clamps.
The metal clamps are universal and as they tighten they force the "donuts" tight into the flares, ...

If there are no ridges or grooves in the drums, you can use very fine wet-or-dry emery paper for this. Chances are that if you took the drums in for a re-surface ("turning" the drums), the shop would say that they're too worn and they couldn't do it anyway, would want you to buy new.

From here they look like stock headlights with some after market 'eye brows' attached. They slip in between the glass & the chrome trim ring. Have them on my car, as a matter of fact.

There are a few engine codes that begin with "B" so first open your hood and look at the serial number stamping in the generator stand to see if some how that number got crossed (outside shot, but that's the easiest fix).
I've never heard of a VW of the period having a serial number starting with a letter. The preferred code is on the tunnel, double check your body id plate. It is stamped...

For "best" then you want to check the classifieds for "NOS".
For anything else you need to do a "Search" in the "Beetle" forums to see what other volks have found out from buying parts.

Check the 'Search' category of the Gallery area and type in '58'. You'll see lots of pics of 58's and will get an idea of the antennaes that were installed back then. It seems to me alot of it could have been the discretion of dealerships, some may have had no antennaes installed, because there is some variation. Most it seems were side mounted on the front quarterpanels, left or right, ...

I don't believe it will latch properly if it's the wrong year decklid. It's been a long time since I messed with mine, so if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will point it out. I have a 64' with the tab decklid, and if I remember right, it won't line up with the latch plate. You can just put the t-handle on for looks if you want. I decided to go with one of those round keyed lock plates that they sell ...

If you don't have the early cast pedals (and you shouldn't on a '67) they can be bent to the side.

You are almost there! Mine (1967) took just under two quarts to refill. You'll know when you're done when the fluid starts running out of the fill hole. Give it a chance to settle, as the oil is very thick, then top it off slowly.

Will it not close flush with the body, or just not engage the locking mechanism? I'm reading the question as either: the door won't budge, it's really difficult to close, or it won't close all the way.
