The Mahurat- the FFIL - grrr VENT
Published (2009-11-10 15:25:00)
What are these games that you speak of? I'm assuming this is a gujarati tradition. Shilps - you're not alone! I typed FMIL first, but then realized. DH and I have not been calling each others mother's "mom" yet. It's too weird! Finally a MG! My Bio **Updated 6.16.09 WITH WEDDING VENDOR REVIEWS!!**

Thnks girls.. my Mom/FI agrees with me. Not only that but my mom doesn't reccomend us being on the road for so long on the day of the wedding. FFIL is conveniently conservative.. FI and I have agreed that we will ask him to do the puja @ the venue or at the hotel where other groom-side of the families are staying. Thanks for sharing your experiences. As we grow older together, As we continue to change with age, There is one thing that...

Indian Shopping in Florida,...
Published (2009-11-11 13:38:00)
Definitely not Tallahassee! I lived there one spring and there are quite limited shopping opportunities for non-SA clothing, nevermind anything specialized. Orlando or Tampa (on Fowler Avenue there are several stores) would be better, with Orlando probably being your best bet. Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas off the top of my head, but Neha was a Florida bride who may be of help. I just looked up her bio, though, and it appears to...

Tikha and bindhi??

OK-I am going crazy over the stupidest things! Do people usualy wear a tikha and a bindhi? I went on google, and have seen it both ways-but I can't remeber what I usually do when I did wear a tikha. My Pathetic attempt of a bio

Quick DC Vendor Reviews
Published (2009-11-05 20:38:00)
I promise I'll add these to my bio soon, but for those of you in DC and beginning your planning, I wanted to recommend a few of my Indian-wedding specific vendors that I thought did a fantastic job... Tandoori Nights (Catering) - We dealt with Neal, the owner, and he is super nice, very flexible, and the food is sooo delicious. We really enjoyed our tasting, and the food at the wedding was fabulous, we had a ton of compliments. They also...

The Westin in Jersey City will give you a great view of the NY skyline and they have a package with Moghul. But it is ultimately hotel so they may have a crystal chandelier inside. I've been to a wedding with desi catering at Bridgewaters in Manhattan. I have no idea if they charge more for the Indian caterer, but you do get a great view of the Brooklyn Bridge from the main hall and outside from the balconies during cocktail hour. I know...

Unique desi-friendly reception...
Published (2009-11-06 12:08:00)
Thank you so much everyone! Those are great suggestions! So far I've looked at Bethwood Manor ($105pp), Liberty House ($160pp), and Hyatt Regency Jersey City ($170pp). Of those Bethwood is the least expensive, but also the least interesting place since it's on Rt 46 across from the Willowbrook Mall :( I also liked Ocean Place, but it was way out of our price range at about $220/pp. I think the reality is that we may have to cut down...

Is there a lot of significance to this puja that he wants you to do? We had a similar thing. MIL wanted us to come back to her house after the ceremony/lunch to do a small puja. Basically it was a puja to welcome the bride into the family. Our timing wasn't so bad, so we were able to do it (ceremony and reception were at two different venues so we had to travel to the reception spot anyway....

The one thing that I told my non-Indian friends who asked me what they should wear was - Don't be afraid of color! I told them that everyone would be wearing every color imaginable. The only real color restrictions are typically placed on the bride (some regions can't wear white, some can't wear black, some can't wear either). But as a guest, any color is appropriate. Also, our families ...

Congrats Megha! Your wedding looked beautiful! The sangeet looked like so much fun. The decor was awesome (might have to find out where you got it from) and I especially liked how the bhangra dancers had matching costumes. The weddings and receptions also looked great. So cute to see your husband dancing during the baraat!

Hiya, My pops who is a Keralite says Cochin is the place to go. You guys should be seeing a lot of hustle and bustle because of the ports that are there. If you have the time to travel a little North to Karnataka state (neighbors to Kerala) there are a lot of ancient temples and palaces (Belur Halibedu in the Hassan District and Mysore Palace in Mysore). HTH!

Congrats and welcome! I don't think that's weird at all. I think that's a very nice way to tie in some Indian elements. I think a coordinating dupatta would look beautiful with the dress. Your dress sounds gorgeous! Do you have a picture of it?
Finally a MG!

Enjoy this part. It's crazy but fun. Soak it all in and if you run out of time for certain projects, just scrap em. I think you might be the last 09 bride on here!

a) Are you inviting same # of guests for all 3 events? If so, than one RSVP Card is the best route. Just list each event as a single line item. This will also save on printing cost, postage and be more importantly more convenient to your guests. b) If you are NOT having same # of guests for Mehndi vs. 2 Ceremonies + reception, than it will add more work tracking/ keeping up/ also have to be ...
