I don't have answers on the testing. We always just had them tested the once. ...but I think sleeping in there is a great idea. You'll have to let us know if you wake up and pretend you're still sleeping with her investigating you!

StefanZ, Thanks for the insight. It's funny when Tiger want's me to come back he will grab my leg with his paw with no claws, also at play time he uses no claws. Tigers greeting call is a low gurgling meow. He does make different sounds depending what he is wanting to communicate, like a sweet low meow when he want's to go outside. Thanks again, Pete

the bright side of this happening is, its a lot easier to foster a semiferale when shehe is injured or sick, and sought your help. The big wide open window from the age of 3-7 weeks when it is easy to foster semiferales and ferales, does open again in these circumstances. nod: As we said in another thread, this is usually possible also otherwise, but also usually more difficult. Tx for you being there, and helping out this little sis of ours!...

I could really use some tips on keeping the water I set out for the strays from freezing now that it's getting cold. I can't afford to get electric bowls you can buy for all the places I feed at so I'm hoping someone has some suggestions for something home made that I could use. How do you guys solve this problem?

We have a few people who feed our colony, one being a retired woman whose garden backs onto their field. She also has the solar cover for a pool but one weekend when we all were away we got styrofoam containers and placed bowls in that - it didnt stop the top from freezing from the ambient temp but stopped the deep freeze from below the bowl. I know someone who puts rocks in boiling water and then in the bowl with warm water, it means they are...

Getting a cat back on schedule?
Published (2009-11-29 21:39:00)
I've always just called cats. They learn and so do opossums... I don't know about anyone else here, but my kitty kitty call can carry for a little over 1/2 a mile! You back off when the cat is in sight so as not to spook them. It seems universal that most cats will learn this call and associated it with food. Were I to make it right now, all of my house cats would flock to the kitchen (even the scaredy kittens) and if the neighbor...

We are starting "Tough Love" from the article from urbancatleague that crazy4catz2 gave me. Pretty much now that she is eating regularly, only putting out the food when we are in here with her. I can already tell its going to drive me bananas. I already want to cheat, but I won't. I think it may take her another day to eat anything, but it shouldn't hurt her. She has eaten a lot in the past few days and we are...

Nothing really new to report. Friday we go back to the vet for shots - it will have been 4 weeks already! I feel in some ways she is less curious of me now. She hasn't moved in my presence in a long time... no more peaking out at me when I sit there and read. I'm washing my sleeping bag so I can start 'camping out' in her room at night to see how that goes. So it sounds like I need to get her combo tested again in a month?...

Sorry about that mess up with the cat names. I'm not so sure what we can say. Her kitty has come a looong way in such a short time. I would just stress the good job she is doing and the fact that kitty WILL regress if she goes back to shelter. Vibes for kitty's new parent.. you are doing a good job please realize that!! I'm not sure what you should say or do.. but it can take such a long time. This kitty is obviously curious,...

Hi!
Welcome to the Forums!
I suspect part of the problem is not they had a feral mom. Being raised in a home ( captivity?) they arent really feral. But them being raised in a crate is sooner the problem...
Dusty is coming well you write. Thus no real problem there.
I think you should have them in a somewhat confined place. Ie bathroom and the bedroom, the rooms with doors. ...

I had a friend who rigged his large carrier with a monofillament line. He ties it to the door, loops it inside and through one of the holes on the side of the carrier. He drapes the line over a chair to keep it up off the ground (so the cat wouldn't walk into it).
Then he holds the end of the line (it is about seven feet long) and waits for the cat to go into the carrier. When he pulls on...

You have a heart of gold, Lizita. Thank you for offering shelter, medical care, and love to all these homeless and hurting kitties.

There is really not any limit. Although the tendency is it takes more time and is more difficult the older they are.
I had known examples of fostering a 5+ cat where it took 6 long years. The cat living as a halftame semiferale in the house. Accepting the humans and the other cats, and not bothered by the home cats. The owner accepted this, she had the other cats to cuddle with. But ...

I was also going to suggest a heated bowl, but if that won't work then I
would check the water twice a day.

Daylight savings messes up my inside cats' clocks! I think ringing the bell is an excellent idea. Something to let him know food's waiting.
I may try that with my ferals - who all come at different times. I am always worried about the last man in.

Very glad to hear all is going well with kitty. I'm sure she's very happy that she's off the streets.
At the shelter, we always leave the radios on. The volume is soft but quite audible. It helps them relax, believing that there is always someone around. Kitty will appreciate that, I'm sure. Whenever she looks you in the eyes, blink at her. It sounds stupid, but the pamphlet that I read ...

One of the questions is if he really is a feral/semiferal homeless...OR if he got astray. Of course, now you adopted him, helped him when he was hurt, and also did cost on him the vets fee and medicines...
But he MAY have an owner lacking him. Only way to know is if you seek. Perhaps write him up on message boards around your neighborhood/town.
For me he sounds more as astray or dumped, than ...

Are they spayed and neutered?
If they are not neither will probably stay very long. The kitten is going to be looking for mates constantly and the momma is going to be pestered by other toms.
I would not try and move the kitten. I would however get them spayed and neutered. And if the kitten is that friendly perhaps try and adopt him out.

Hi Momofmany,
That's a pretty neat setup with the cages inside and the outside enclosure.
Yes I have a wire racoon trap that has a door at one end. Hey, that's a great idea to set the trap on end for the injection to put him to sleep. I will suggest that when I go to talk with my vet. I don't think he does too many if any ferals.
What I am hoping for that he becomes a semi-outdoor cat...
