Story about breaking needles

Sympathy is due as I have had days like that myself. The last time it was due to a bad collection of lint under the sole plate. Sure hope the problem has been resolved and it was only "the gremlins" doing the worst. Jayne

Ever use drapery fabric?
Published (2009-12-21 16:32:00)
I agree with Carol. I'd buy a small bit and wash it first. Many drapery fabrics are meant to be only dry cleaned. If it washes well, why not put it in quilts. It should say if it's cotton on the end of the bolt.

Birthday block quilt

Beautiful! The blocks are lovely and I like the way you put them together. The border fabric is great! Especially for those who don't participate in the birthday blocks, will you tell what you asked for from your birthday group? "Quilter's choice in blues and yellows"? I think some people might not participate because they don't know what to ask for or what kind of instructions they might get. Kate

2010 BOMs

I started the 2005 Everything's Coming Up Roses from Block Central but used purple instead of red and have a lilac themed fabric for the border. Alas, there are 3 more blocks to make. The directions for this BOM were easy to follow. Sharon

QOTD~12/21/09 Do you buy bolts...
Published (2009-12-21 10:24:00)
Yes, I buy bolts for backings. Mostly WOW, sometimes other tonals. I always keep a bolt of unbleached muslin around. Some of it gets used in piecing, but mostly I load up a wholecloth piece when I'm trying out a new quilting technique.

Jennifer, that's exactly what it looked like. Tasted good, though. I'm trying again right now with a different recipe. Nothing as fancy as self rising flour in this house but I still can't imagine what I did wrong.

I've used drapery fabric to make a patchwork duvet cover. I loved the way it came out. The only thing you need to watch for is how the fabric needs to be cleaned. I tested a square of mine in the washer and then the dryer before I did any sewing on it.

I buy PFD fabric for dyeing in bolts. It's much cheaper that way. I use lots since it takes me lots of tries to get the color I want. The leftovers will become backings and small sandwiches for practicing FMQ.

The obvious one is How to Make an American Quilt with Winona Ryder and Ellen Burstyn. I'm thinking there were a few in the children's bedrooms in both Bicentennial Man and Home Alone. I'll have to start paying closer attention. Neat observation!

Well, while I have received my box, I am just mailing mine out today. So I am going to wait to open mine until I see that my recipient has received what I am sending. I hope my Secret Santa understands. But I would just LOVE to see what others have received already! Come on, boys & girls, show us the stuff! Odessa

By metallic do you mean a special needle for metallic threads? I've never seen those. We learn so much from our friends. Thanks for sharing this info. Good to hear from you, Fran.
