Gardz will serve as a good primer but as decwalls said it's clear so you may want to use a real tinted primer to help with complete coverage in fewer coats, but it certainly isn't required.

ok I'm going for the Gardz. Do I need latex primer after this or do I just paint after applying Gardz? Thanks for the advice. It's appreciated.

You can either use an oil base primer to make sure all the adhesive is removed or you can use zinsser's gardz. If you use the gardz and are painting a dark color, the gardz cannot be tinted. It is clear, so if the color you choose is going to be a dark base, you may want to think about using another primer that you can tint to as close to the dark color you choose. If it is a neutral base, you should be ok with the gardz and a good...

Question about primer
Published (2008-11-28 15:26:00)
I am going to be replacing rotted wood on some apartment buildings next week. My plan is to prime these boards in my garage and then put on the building since cold weather is an issue. I realize that the primer will need to be recoated in the spring because it will loose its primer properties between now and then. The problem I am having is that I needed an oderless primer since I will be priming these boards inside. However, Sherwin Williams...

Starting Nov 28, we are having 29 Loewen wood windows installed in our house near Toronto, Canada. The temp around that time will be slightly above 0C or 32F. The exterior of the windows will be factory primed. Since these are all wood windows, protecting them from the elements is vital. Can somebody tell me from his/her experience which one is the best option. 1. Since the exterior of the ...

Hello all. I've done a search on this forum looking to see the appropriate primer for kitchen walls after removal of wallpaper. So far I've read: you must use oil-based and you don't need oil based..use Kilz oil based, use Gardz, use BIN, use low oder oil based, use water based, use shellac based, use tinted, don't use oil based where there may be moisture....HELP!!! The advice is conflicting...

Behr is the better paint for the money. Better coverage and there latex primer is good too. With dark colors I tint it gray or 1/2 the tint of the color. There primer will take 3oz. per gallon. Don't rush your paint job. Preparation is 90% of the job. Let the primer dry for 10 hrs. and if you need a second coat let the first coat dry for 4-6hrs.

Hi all! I need help! We are getting ready to paint the inside of our custum home. I have bought samples and samples of paint. It is a very open floor plan (kitch, living, and dining). Our pride is our Madura Gold granite that will be in the kitchen. Does anyone have any color suggestions? I am leaning towards Lowes-Eddie Bauer Pecan. Any suggestions or pics would be greatly appriciated! ...

Hey Faron, On another thread you disagreed about the length of time for a primer exposed without topcoating - "windows in cold weather" thread. We have wood stucco mould casements that were installed 2 years ago that came factory primed. After the install, i filled and preped and put another coat of primer. To the eye, they look to be in good shape. This will be the second winter with out ...

Hi, A few years ago we painted virtually all of our interior trim and doors with Cabinet Coat in Sierra Blanco. In fact, we like the stuff so much we even painted the trim and doors in our workshop/garage with it. During our recent bathroom remodel we were forced to replace the bathroom door and when I went to the only place in town where I can order CC - my local Ace Hardware store - they ...

Has anyone used both Aura and Ellen Kennon's paints? How do they compare in paint quality/application/clean-up? What about durability/wash ability? I've only ever used BM Regal paints before (but I could have sworn it was a latex back 10yrs ago), so I don't know how to compare them. I'm attracted to both the Affinity and EK FS colors, but I want to know how the actual paint performs. I have...

We live in a 100 year old house and the wood is beautiful, however the baseboards are in really bad shape. I was wondering if the baseboards could be painted white, but leave the trim around the doors and windows their natural wood. Do you think this would be OK? I'm more concerned about the base meeting the door trim of a 6 feet wide opening to the living room. I can't find any pictures of ...
