What tile cleaner won't...

Steam cleaning is fine for a once in a while cleaning. It's not something I'd recommend using for normal maintenence and cleaning. Again, clear hot water should be more than sufficient for daily, and even in most cases, weekly cleaning. Maybe once every month or two, break out the oxyclean in a mild solution.

Been there, done that. What a pain that was. I didn't have room to swing a sledgehammer, so I used a hammer drill to break it up enough to get in there with tin snips and cut the wire off in sections. If the whole wall is coming out and you don't need to salvage the studs, I think I'd up the ante. How about a renting a powerful sawzall with a concrete blade? You might need a heap of fresh blades. Thanks Bill. We opened the caulk & put some on a paper to see how the color looks but not really the correct color. The colors on chart certainly do match the actual color. NOt really sure what to do now.......................

wall hung toilets?
Published (2009-11-23 15:41:00)
We wanted to get a Duravit/Geberit combo for our remodeling project, but the end price was twice than a normal toilet. Since we had room, we gave up (probably not your choice). I saw a lot of Duravit/Geberit combos in my European trips, most hotels or renovated houses did away with the tank and hid it behind the wall. Unfortunately in US this is not a cheap option and most plumbers (at least where we live) have never seen these before.

Travertine around base of walls?

Thanks for your input! I will stick with my original design plan. The wall color and the floor will be fairly similar and I like the idea of having a visual break between the two. I'll stick with baseboard molding. Thanks again!

help with 1950's bath- PIX

With the experience I had, I would think twice about reglazing a tub. My reglazing started to peel about a month after it was done, but honestly it "felt" painted when in use, and the porcelain felt better to the touch, anyway. I stripped off the glazing, and would have lived with the old tub except that it was Etched to help the glazing bond. Since it is etched, it is hard to keep clean and is not shiny. I am replacing my tub now. I...

yup, mirrors had us stymied too. we got 2 rectangle tilt mirrors for the master, 24-36, they are by gatco, but i can;t for the life of me remember which online store we bought them from. perhaps CSN? They were ~$110 each I think. we are actually still looking for one for the guest bath - we like one at pottery barn, except the price...

Thanks for all the replies - didn't want to think I was ignoring or not responding to you. The house is in another state and we had to close up the house where we were (winterize it) and come back to FL, just got home late last night. But a quick note... I've been looking for a year, if not going every few months to the area, on line daily. I've gone through two inspections on homes where we had a deal only to have to walk away...

I don't think I've seen this posted here, but I came across a fantastic website on Zillow with hundreds of bathroom pictures posted. Sorry if this is common knowledge and I just didn't know. If you haven't seen it before, have fun; I sure did! Here is a link that might be useful: Inspiration photos

Two issues: 1) Make sure your supply line is well-insulated if it are is in an exterior wall space; and 2) Code for most toilets is that there must be 24" of clear space in front of the toilet and 15" from the centerline to either side wall. In such a small space, will you have a problem doing this?

1) So long as there's no showerhead over the tub, it's not a problem. That "bead" is only if there's a showerhead, and you're using a drop in tub, which in my opinion, is a bad situation, no matter whether you use that bead or not. 2) Normally, if there's a surface out of whack that the tile will abutt, the tile is laid out as such that it will be cut into that surface. If this is the case, ...

Slate comes in many colors and quality levels. For cheap, soft slate you can go as low as $1.50/ft (no counting install); really good slate gets pretty pricey.

"not one of them relates to the room in the inspiration photo" - Dilly Dally, you are so right and if my mind weren't so one-tracked I would have realized what I wasn't saying. We are doing travertine in our bathroom and painting the walls. Our contractor mentioned this also to us, but we chose to stick with painted wood trim because it comes in 12ft lengths instead of 18" length travertine pieces around the room. I guess I liked the one continuous piece look versus a bunch of pieces. It all comes down to the look you want.

Can't help on the cost of moving the toilet, but I had a suggestion re: door. You could use an outside sliding track door (barn door-type track) with the door sliding behind your dresser. Some people on the forum have used these with really nice results. I hear you on the accordion door - we had a similar one and plan on using a barn door until we come up with the funds to re-do the space. ...

Thanks for the feedback. jjaazzy - I was planning on the first option being a doorless shower. I was thinking that the wall next to the toilet could be a solid wall, with glass along the other side to give a more open feeling. pps7 - I went home a measured, and I actually have a window that is too close to the corner to allow the linen cabinet in Option 1. I would therefore probably opt...

Since you will have a stationary shower head mounted on the wall, you could mount the hand held shower at a lower position. Do you ever take a shower and not want to get your hair wet? If so, then mount the head at your shoulder height so can do this. I think this is also a good height so you can easily grab the shower head to rinse down the walls and floor after you do a cleaning.

An easy solution would be to change the tub from a corner one to a rectangle or oval one, freeing up more space on her side. Unrelated: I'd put a pocket door on your toilet room.

Both you AND your contractor are wrong. Grout's cure time is the same as any other portland cement based product-- 28 days. However, I DO believe that most heating systems, including NuHeat allow use after 1 week past completion of installation. You might want to double check that, though, with NuHeat.

Prices differ in different parts of the country, and the materials you use will affect price (larger format tile will cost more to install). Our bath is only 5'6" x 13'4" with a large shower/no tub. We did the demo ourselves, gutting it to the studs. Wiring, plumbing and toilet were all relocated by a company. It's still not completed, but by the time it is, we will probably come in around $18...
