ductless hood with a pro range?
Published (2009-12-01 12:28:00)
You might want to give Prestige a call. Their conventionally-vented hoods are very good, and I noted, last I looked, that they had a "vent-free" option. I can't comment on the performance of that style of hood, but their build quality is excellent and their conventionally-vented hoods are much, much quieter than similar Broan and Best by Broan units.

Thank you sfjeff for this information for me and the others on this site. You are always so helpful. I will call Prestige after their lunch hour today.

18' dishwasher choices

Lowe's KD is just plain confused. KA has never had an 18" DW. Their parent Whirlpool has a few models, as does Frigidare/Kenmore, Avanti, Haier, Danby and those already mentioned. Stick with Bosch or Miele for one of these.

LOL! Rococcogurl, I don't have a horse in this race. It was the podium that made me think Molteni around the time Igloo said it. And I only brought up Diva because I thought they cost less ! Caumartin are great looking, but I don't like their island version so much, and they don't have a podium. Igloo, I love the idea of tiling the whole niche (which probably went straight up into that storage area), and putting in the aircraft...

Prestige Duct-Free - Why???
Published (2009-12-01 14:24:00)
I've been wondering for quite some time now: Why is it that whenever people come here looking for recirc hood recommendations the name Prestige comes up? This happened at least twice just recently. I know that Prestige hoods have a good reputation in general, but what is it about their duct-free option that is superior to any other brands'? From what I can tell, it's just a charcoal filter. Just like everyone else seems to use...

Here is an example from Sears Canada. Click on cutout info. Some designers/fabricators/installers may also not eat cost of mistakes or omissions if actual appliances are not available to them for measurements when requested and they have been supplied with incorrect "correct" data by customer or maker. Slide in ranges are fairly critical and it might be better to be certain the fit won't be a problem, other appliances maybe not...

I will admit that our unit was > 17 years old (yes, you're right on-spot -- boil, off, boil, off -- ugg!) and some prior owners had really forked up the $$ for that unit.. I'm hoping newer models behave better.. However, I'll stick with our nice Gas Bluestar.. I'm a very happy camper!

Good question. That's one reason I didn't go Miele. (I also wasn't entirely sure that the part of the instructions describing flush mounting weren't for different Miele cooktops. Sort of like the diagram was a generic one for all their cooktops and you were supposed to pick the right one. But I didn't look into it.) My old cooktop is flush, but has a steel rim that sits a wee bit proud of the...

I purchased a RO system a while ago for my previous house and didn't have any problems. It was pretty easy to install too (less than 1 hr). The filters in the new units look to be easier to change, though I don't have any experience with those.

Of course, what's a "little" heat is subjective but I'd call it more than a little and *all* of the time, not just "regularly". Also, you might find that while the heat might be an asset during the winter, it will make your kitchen miserable during the summer, so if you go the AGA route, you might want to make plans for an alternative during the summer so you can turn off the AGA. You'd find ...

The difference between an 18" and a 24" form Bosch and Miele is the width, height is the same and the rack layout is pretty much the same to. So yes, a dinner plate will fit. I have the Wolf 36" cooktop, which does have 2 cover things that fit over 2 burners each, with the fifth burner as a single cover. I have a kitchenaid dishwasher and the 2 burner ones fit in there no problem - although I honestly usually scrub them in the sink by hand. HTH

If it's so new , how can there be any reviews that accurately give a picture of this unit? If it vents steam onto the underside of a laminate counter it will surely ruin the partical board substrate. It's just a question of when. Really poor design, and they had a slew of units from which to copy. Maytag is not the same co. it was even a decade ago. In reality it's not really a co...

My General Feeling is that if you don't want people to snag your material then don't post it in a public domain. If I were to copy and use a picture I would probably give credit as a courtesy but would be less likely to ask for permission to use it. Be very cautious about using specs from current appliances you have not bought yet in cases like this. It is possible that a somewhat different new model is going to be introduced when such information is withdrawn from general access and found only in the carton with the product.

I don't have a specific recommendation for you, but I do suggest you read through this forum, or do a search in the search box at the bottom of the Appliances page (search "quiet hood" or something like that), there are a lot of threads on this topic, and the hood selection is vast. I just wanted to say that a great deal of noise in a hood arises from the ductwork. If the duct diameter is ...

Gas burners (from any manufacturer) and downdraft hoods just don't mix well. It is not so much the BTU output, but the "suck out the flames" effect which distorts heat patterns, and can limit how low you can reliably simmer. Think of a good wind blowing across your range top all the time you have the hood turned on. If you have to go with a non-conventional hood, the BlueStar is probably no ...
