Ordered mine just yesterday, with both a 30L and 45L cover. Nice feature new this year is the interchangeable covers.
I'll be traveling alone quite a bit for work, and felt this was worth the investment even though the price is steep.
Once I get some time with it, I'll post more info.

When it comes to probes, go long. I think that 185cm is just too short... so are any of the ski pole probes for that matter.

As the Colorado snow pack continues to rot away and with warm temps and high pressure forecasted for the next week or more, our annual layer of unconsolidated crap continues to get larger.
We can hope for a huge, wet dump soon and maybe it'll help rip out much of the depth hoar lurking in our snow pack.
However, there will be a substantially large layer of weak facets this season as ...

This would be a bad idea for a couple of reasons.
1. Need a blasters liscense to carry, create, and detonate such a charge (mix of ANFO and diesel fuel)
2. Sympathetic releases in the surrounding area
3. Used for mitigation work not for slope testing. If the slope is that questionable, ski somewhere else
4. Although fairly stable, it can pose a risk in transportation. Must ...

I agree, finding a representative slope similar to one you intend to ride thats low enough angle you won't trigger it (like 2 guys in Canada that died digging a pit a couple years ago http://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topi...TOPIC_ID=24 657 is difficult.
The reason why it may not have been emphasized in courses you've taken is that instructors are afraid to place much emphasis on telling ...
