How much TV does your tween watch?
Published (2009-12-23 12:44:00)
This sounds a lot like my son....he's a huge reader, too, and has read Harry Potter and Twilight series. Straight A student. But out of the 6.5 hours he is home in the afternoon, he spends 1 hour playing video games, 1/2 hour on homework, 1/2 hour dinner, 1 hour writing stories on the computer, 1.5 hours at night watching TV. So if he has no activity that day or a friend over, he has about 2 extra hours to kill. Sometimes he will spend...

10 yr olds and birthday parties....

Great Birthday (it's mine too, lol)~~ok, so now on to your question! I guess I need to know a bit more about your daughter...will the party be co-ed or all girls, how many would you invite, is she more sporty or girly, into science fiction or american girls, etc, etc. The answer to that will help in some ideas. My daughter LOVES big sleepovers (I HATE them), so that's been our focus the past few birthdays. I was always totally...

Motivating my 11 year old
Published (2009-12-18 01:41:00)
Our school has that same system - the child just gets a tardy slip and goes to class, and after x number of tardies, the parent(s) get a letter threatening them with legal action if attendance doesn't improve. This means nothing to my daughter - after all, she's not the one who's going to get the letter - so she has no motivation to get up and get moving in the mornings. I can see not punishing for every single tardy, because...

I have to say that I know I probably should be limiting the amt. of TV that 14 yr old DS watches because he def. watches too much--he'd watch TV day & night if he could. The thing is that he is a straight A student which he reminds me of--he does his HW right after school before I come home from work. He is also a big reader when he finds books he likes, so I can't complain about that either--I think he's re-reading the...

How much TV does your tween watch?

DD (12) is in 8th grade and she averages 3 to 4 hours of homework a night (stuff that is time consumming no matter how smart you are.) She also spends about 10 to 20 hours outside school each week in the performing arts. She averages less than 2 hours of non-homework screen time a week. DS (9) is a different story though. He doesn't like to have too much structured activity and homework is usually only 10 to 15 minutes a night. He is...

Right now, he watches quite a bit, since he is only in hockey now.? He is in band, sports, scouts and clubs so he does not have time to watch regularly.? He is a straight A student, so I figure if it works, don't try and fix it.

Very good question. Since we have been living at my dads house my dd is watching alot of TV. Dad has takin over the room our TV is in, we have a flat screen on the wall & that leaves his den/TV room which is at the end of the house & out of sight w/his TV in it. Dd is always there, I think she's in her room & find her watching TV. I've gone so far as to hide the remote. For Nik I think its an escape from the reality of...

My DD will be 10 in March and wants a big party to celebrate reaching double digits, any ideas for a great 10th birthday party? I am Tracie, mom to Courtney(9), Savannah(8) and our unofficially adopted son, Frankie(31).? DH is Dave, we live in Westlake, Ohio.? Courtney will be 10 on March 6th so I guess I belong here pretty soon, although it seems impossible that she is almost 10!

I have been told to throw water on her in the mornings to letting her just be late..... (im not a fan of either) I would have to clean up that ...

I would go to a couselor to see why he is choosing to do this. He probably is still mad about the move, he can't control that, but he can control his grades, so he does. But, perhaps talking with impartial person, may help him air his issues and then come up with a new game plan.

On a scale of bad things I've heard/seen in texts, that's fairly mild! Not nice, clearly, but nothing that I'd feel a need to report to a mom either. Let the girls work it out themselves, either they will or they won't be friends, either way I wouldn't get involved. Just have a playdate for the younger kids and don't even mention the older girls, that's fairly common, I never feel like I ...

I will tell you, Kass has a friend who is also a thief! I would've never thought this of this little girl either! She was caught red handed stealing from Claire's on a school trip last year! She has also walked off with a few of Kass's things, nothing like an Ipod or anything though. They go to different schools now though, and I dont have to worry so much now. They dont see each other very ...
