OK, glad to hear that you already done your homework (malware scan)... now I would continue with a winsock reset, open up a CMD window (START - RUN - CMD <ENTER> ), there type the following command: netsh winsock reset catalog reboot the PC, and try it then... if that does not work then go to the Network Connections, and double click the NETWORK card, then to the TCP/IP section, uninstall the TCP/IP protocols, reboot and reinstall...

update, installed 2nd xp to 2nd drive, xp install recognizes old xp (not w7) but allows selection of install partition. after xp install and reset of paragon boot mgr the choice is xp menu old & new or windows 7. forgot how slow xp install is and how awful dell driver setup is. makes w7 setup look pretty good. have created/backed up a base setup of xp+updates/monitor/firefox/acronis. next stage is to add email, office apps etc., going...

I can agree with BBB since I've been using Avira AntiVir Personal - FREE Antivirus for almost two years an have had no problems at all. http://www.free-av.com/ You would probably "feel safer" with the professional version that I believe normally goes for $79 but I've seen it offered for $29 when they run specials now and then. There is also an Advanced version for $59 that I have seen offered for (I believe $19) on...

Have you checked to see if the hardware is fine? Memtest, Motherboard tests and the like? You could have a failing piece of hardware that's causing the system to grind. Another thing to check is the operating temperature of the CPU. If it's too high it could be that the thermal paste between the CPU/IHS is not working like it should.

No, nor would I even want to try. You are trying to disable a keyboard function on a client machine. You realize what kind of security breach that would be? Seriously breaking into a computer and disabling certain functions form a webpage? If its displayed, it can be copied. Even websites that block it usually limit themselves to disabling the right click. Just having the image show means ...

with something like that, the first thing that comes to mind is MALWARE related... so with that in mind, I would run a full scan with your build in AV... then download MBAM , and after installing, run a QUICK scan first, delete anything it finds, then do a FULL scan... if MBAM does not install, then download it on a second PC, then rename the EXE file to something along the lines of TEST or...

You could move away from Security Suites which try to do everything and consequently slow you down in the process. You can rely on the Windows XP Firewall (and any Router if that applies), allowing you to just run Anti Virus (with Spyware components) software of your choice. Here are a couple of free ones for you to consider. I use both of them but obviously on different machines and I am ...

It's for clients to connect to netware networks. If you don't have that situation, remove it from the IP stack. I've not used a WinXP laptop in Dubai, but I've never experienced any technical problems in connecting around Europe, Singapore, Hong Kong or Australia. Sometimes a login page and other home pages appear in a foreign language, but that's not really a big issue.
