You are already very bottlenecked, a better graphics card would give you no benefit. I'm using a Radeon 4870 (comparable to GTX260) and I'm bottlenecked by my E2200, which is much better than the Pentium 4 you're using. Moving to an E8400 or some such would actually give you a bigger performance boost than a new graphics card. Probably 10-15% at most, you would fair better with a x2 card on the the full x16 bandwidth.

wow, thank for the link. Really useful and tons of infos. i'll go to bed smarter tonight lol. i used the Wattage calculator from that link and i got roughly 380W but that was with 30%+ efficiency and more things pluged to the PC than what i actually have so my *360W* should be good enough. i dont know what to do anymore. But now i know how important psu are these days.

That's what was suspected and the solution still works. Plugging it in to an unused circuit eliminates all distortion. Apparently the floating ground would make the converter cheaper to make and they probably didn't suspect it would adversely affect anything. I'm just happy I can have my computer plugged in without being unable to use my new monitor. By the way, it seems that if other things are plugged into the circuit there...

Ok, thanks for all the help, a few more last questions. I have a PCI wireless card in my PC, to get wireless internet. Do I still need the "hard wired" broadband/modem cable input thing/PCI card if I don't use it ? Also, my DVD/RW Drive, I don't use it, and I'm sure it must be using power, so can I unplug it from the PSU if I don't even use it ? Also, 7800GT seems stable, temps seem normal, no anomalies,...

I would suggest you try it in either another power supply that you might be able to borrow from a friend, or even try that video card in a friends computer. Might be worth a try before you go too far.

I don't recommend buying a Dell but that's your call. As for the card, playing a game on one screen while running an application on the other MIGHT work. It depends on how the game will work with dual monitors. Essentially you just need a card with dual outputs.

Sli Is a very big waste of money. It's 100% the price for about a 30% increase in speed. Definitely not worth it. Also , Utra is not a very goos power supply brand and wouldn't properly power two gpu's like that for long. The efficiency and amperage just isn't up to par at all. It might be able to power your 9800 ok but I wouldn't put anything higher on it w/o a upgrade to a decent unit.

The power connectors for GPU's are standard. What is the Brand of the 1000W PSU. One 260GTX requires a minimum 500W so I would be doubtful that even a quality brand 100W PSU would be sufficient for two. You will see a small increase in performance using two GPU's.

Hi there, I would stick with the 260. The P4 is an older CPU now so i would look at upgrading that first. However you could go mad and buy a 295GTX ( or the ATI equivilant ) assuming you're PSU is large enough. However you're CPU would cause it to bottleneck.

Hi all, long time reader of the building forum, first time non-able-to-fix-my-own-shiat-poster. Recently I've been having issues trying to play Borderlands or Civ IV which previously have run without issue. Now from the start of either, I get artifacts right away and just a few minutes in to almost immediately, I freeze up, listen to the sound for a while and can't do anything. Eventually ...

I don't know how to interpret that report, maybe another team member could but not I. It would be easier to list your PC specs: Motherboard (brand, model, main chipset) CPU (brand, model, clock speed) RAM (amount, format, speed) Graphics card (brand, model) Power supply (brand, model, wattage, amps on +12V rail) We need all of those. Alternatively, if you have a premade PC ...

Most likely those sensor readings aren't correct , just use the bios to read temps voltage and fan speeds for now. Try to get that gpu way cooler , lower the room temp , add more case fans , ect.. Also , alienware's own brand of power supplies are terrible and I wouldn't be surprised if it was the culprit. Bad power supplies can actually cause heat problems within a machine due to poor ...

It can be somewhat difficult to identify which laptops have replaceable GPUs and which don't. It would be best to buy a laptop that already has a decent GPU. The Asus G50VT series is decent for the price, and I believe Gateway had a very good gaming laptop for around ~$800-900. Avoid Alienware laptops, as they are unreliable and very overpriced.

It has a PCIe x16 slot for video cards but with the 305w stock power supply any over basic video will also require a PSU upgrade. http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/9310...8380sp16.sh tml What are you looking to do with a new card and what budget do you have in mind?
