If it's password protected they'll have to type in the password, you might try giving one Admin permission locally as a test and see if this helps. As for your backup drive, you may only give access to the people that are going to access the drive and the rest that are not permissable won't be able to access it. You can do a lot more restrictions if you have a Domain Controller using a GPO (Group Policy Objects). Maybe,...

Checking in .... I disabled the wireless adapter connection remained connected with the direct ethernet cable and have had no problem with any lost connections. So it appears the problem can be narrowed down to the adapter connection. Would that not indicate either a hardware problem? Or a registry entry or software problem regarding operation of the adapter? I think we can rule out the router and signal strength as issues. I'd guess...

Hi Carrie, When was the last time you have updated your account? If you do not have the fax anymore, I would remove that number. Appearantly you have a single line with multiple phone numbers (home phone#, Fax #, possibly others). I believe the modem is getting confused as to what numbers are what. The TCP/IPv6 can be left unchecked as it should have no bearing on your dial-up connection. Does BellAiant provide you with other numbers for...

Hello larbac,
What type of Firewall device (such as Soniwall, Cisco or Netgear) do you have? This is a good place to do these configuration by adding ports and Access rules.

Okay, first off. Nothings wrong with the network. It works perfectly fine. :D
So, question: My sister came home and runs some stupid-*** server and uploads **** day and night. The uploads just KILL any and all connection I have. It's like I'm stuck using some super-slow dial-up. Pages that load instantly now take like 15 seconds. It's ridiculous. Anyway, I need to know how I can tell the ...

Try resetting it to factory defaults and following the original WD installation instructions.
Since this is a network disk, it should be accessible to all the networked machines.

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests . It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.
The link to post is near ...

Well, since it connects at home, top suspect here would be a firewall if you're getting a good Internet connection. Let's verify the connection first at the college location.
Try these simple tests.
Hold the Windows key and press R , then type CMD ( COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:
In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands ...

Hello slkamath,
If you are concern about security, why don't you share a folder via FTP, upload and share only files that need to be shared.
I hope that this is helpful.

Are those two the machines in question? Can they ping each other by name or by IP address?
Could your router have a wireless isolation feature that is configured to not allow wireless workstations access to the network? How about the exact make/model of the router?
