It very well could but without the stand offs in place you could damage the board due to the solder joints shorting on the tray. On a OEM motherboard/case your going to have to trace the wiring back in the old case to see which are the switch wires and power light wires, the switch wires do not have polarity to worry about they will work either way, the lights are diodes so the wires are marked +(Postive) and -(negative) if reversed no damage...

Sounds like the motherboard likely shorted out and is damaged. It usually not a good idea to make repairs on a PC while it is powered up. In any case, disconnect all data cables from the motherboard. Also, remove all addon cards and RAM. You should simply have a bare motherboard with cpu and only the power cables attached. Try to boot...you should get error/beep codes from missing RAM. In which case you can try putting it back together a...

I would suggest you again remove the heatsink, clean off all the old paste with some 90+ proof alcohol (or artic silver cleaner if available) and reapply according to these instructions. Remember, too much paste is as bad as not enough paste, so follow directions precisely. Applying Artic Silver Thermal Paste I am a little puzzled by the "two pins" you talk about on the heatsink. Could you show us a picture of where those...

Take out one of your video cards, see if that helps with the shutdowns. The ATX specification says within 5%, but issues do tend to crop up before that. We see them on the low side, starting around 11.7 volts, and you're closer to the edge of spec on the high side. Doesn't help that for SLI a larger psu would probably be a very good idea. Wonder if it's common with ocz, I've got a 600 watt GameXStream, the +12 on that runs...

The CPU should shut itself down with in seconds if overheating, try redoing the thermal paste and reattaching the heatsink. Dead motherboard would be more believable then dead CPU.

What monitoring program are you using? If not the bios, then check those temps in there because those are normally the most accurate. Please, also list your complete specs including the video card and the make and wattage of your power supply.

Is this a new build? Did you bench test before assembling in the case? If not, that would be my first suggestion. Have you checked the CPU/Mobo temps in the Bios? Have you checked the Voltages in the Bios? Are you certain all 4 legs of the CPU heatsink are securely snapped into the Mobo? I would also be suspicious of the Antec PSU. Antec isn't a suggested brand anymore since they have ...

The best way is to contact the manufacturer. OEM's use mobo's made for them and can be very difficult to determine what will or will not be compatible with them.

How much are you willing to spend on upgrading? And no, that one is a 125 watt cpu so it wont work. If we had a price range then maybe we can help, but here are some motherboards that use ddr2 ram and support the cpu you first asked about. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2fAM2%2b%2f AM2 The draw back is you will need to reinstall windows though.

What are you seeing for temps on the motherboard(chipset mch) CPU, and the voltage readings for the 12v, 5v, 3.3v get them from the bios first, then in windows while gaming using a program like sensorview pro> http://www.stvsoft.com/index.php?opt...d=17&Itemid =33

12694MHz would be 12.7GHz. You copy that down right? It could be Intel SpeedStep underclocking the CPU when it isn't under load. It's a power saving feature.

Do a Bench Test (instructions on this site) without the hard drive and Graphics card(use onboard graphics if equipped) (just Board,CPU/Heatsink,1 x RAM chip and PSU) If it don't power up 1st thing to check would be your PSU. You should have around 550-650w(450w+ real power) for that system by my estimate at least with the Graphics card and all. That would be the easiest(and cheapest) thing to ...

Yes, they certainly do if they are the clamps that hold down the heatsink. The must be there and holding it tightly to the motherboard. You can either replace the heatsink clamps or get a new heatsink unit. The unit will not operate properly without those being clear down and very tight (so you can't wiggle them when it is clamped down) on the motherboard.

if the bios is infected then it will be damaged for good BUT how do you know the bios is infected? Are you sure you used a bios revision compatible with that motherboard? when a system hangs it is usually down to the ram being faulty or the psu being faulty. when you flashed the bios did you flash through the bios or through windows?
