First thing to do is connect it up to an external monitor, if all is ok on the ext mon when you run these apps then you can dismiss a graphics problem.
Lets take it from there first.

I suggest you run diagnostics to check your HDD. Also check in
BIOS settings if your HDD is still recognized.

The Bios and the chipset have to support the CPU, unfortunately there is not a published CPU support list for laptops, because of the nature of laptop design for temperature and power requirements/restrictions not all CPU's that seem like they should work will work.
That being said before changing a CPU it always a good idea to update the Bios first to get the latest CPU support, being OEM HP...

If ACER told you to update your BIOS then may be you should bring it back to them, tell them what happened and ask them for a solution. I say this because may be if the BIOS update is required by the manufacturer then may be they have a solution on how to recover if it crashes. In my limited experience with laptops

It will either use a combination of
FN keys or a switch on the side of the case . . look for a blue "Antenea" symbol on one of the function keys that you use in combination with the FN key

Try this first:
1. Remove the battery and AC cord. Remove the bottom cover/covers of your laptop and make sure the cooling path is free of fluff and dust. Check the heat sink on the CPU is not loose, if so tighten the screws back down that hold it on.
2. Remove and reseat your RAM modules.
3. Replace your covers.
