I have just had a read up on your comp and it appears as though W2K has ALL the drivers on the installation disc? . It might be worth buying a W2K cd and using that. I saw one go on Ebay the other day quite cheap.

Thanks again TriggerFinger. Here's what I did to overcome the problem. I went to Power Options / Changed advanced Power Settings / then to Multimedia Settings, and there I found the Plugging In to be set at "Prevent Idling to Sleep" --- I changed that to "Allow the computer to sleep" --- and now it's in a nice light coma. Up to this point anyways, all seems to be working ok. If that changes,...

Hi, I have a MSI EX610 laptop running Debian testing with kernel 2.6.26.5. I purchased this laptop ca. 6 month ago. Lastly, I have random shutdowns when playing 3d games. That is to say, the system shuts down as if I ran shutdown -h. Recently, I had the same problem when compiling a kernel, i.e. having a constant high cpu load. I started a memtest using the Ubuntu live system, and...

Since the original poster seems to have abandoned this post, I am gonna take up where he left off seeing as though I'm having the exact same problem. I am also running an IBM X31 Dual Boot Machine with Ubuntu 8.10 as my primary OS and XP Pro SP2 as well. I'm fairly knowledgable about these computers, and getting better all the time with Linux. You could go to the hp website and see if you can order the restore disks from them, usually its a minimal cost. HP purchased compaq a few years back and handle all support so check HP.com. Also I don't know about compaq but HP computers have a program that allows you to create the restore cd's but its a one shot deal, if no one created the cd's before to recieved the computer you may ...

I've got a problem with my Satellite Pro 6000, which I got second hand and isn't under any warranty whatsoever. Right now, I'm simply trying to boot it up. -The monitor won't turn on -The hard drive is completely inactive (or the little light won't turn on) -The power is on, but the only evidence of this is the light, and the heat ommitting from the PC. In the rare occasion that my ...

Here is the error message I got. Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32toskrnl.exe. Please re-install a copy of the above file. How do I actually do this? Keep it simple as I'm all new to this. Can this be something I can do from a disc, if so which disc (Red or Blue)? Thank You in advance.

Hi, first time posting! I'm looking to upgrade to a PCI for my HP Pavillion 5220, but I'm really not sure what type would be compatible. I don't need a top quality card, just one for running most new generation games. Any help would be appreciated, and I can provide any more info needed. Thanks.

So regardless on battery or AC adapter the laptop does not power ON. Everything is OFF... no lights, no beeps, no sound or anything? If this is the case then start with checking the ac adapter. Measure the output of the AC adapter. If output is OK, try stripping the laptop down to motherboard, LCD and power ON switch (remove everything else).

Here's something weird and wonderful. This laptop will not hibernate while plugged in, but does when on battery power. I realized this must be in the settings somewhere, but does one know where and how to set it so it will hibernate while plugged in? Please type very slowly in all responses so I will be able to follow the directions. :-} Thanks!!!

I recently got this machine for my daughter & when I switch it on it only stays on for approx 20 seconds then switches itself off. Hi, I need help with a Graphics issue. My laptop renders my external Monitors slightly out of focus or fuzzy. I thought it was the Monitor but when I hook up my much older PC ( running XP ) the Screen quality is fine! I got a different monitor hooked up to it now. The screen is still fuzzy. I noticed a few other weird issues. -When I hook up the Flat Screen exterior Monitor to my laptop both ...

The model, from what I can see, is PCG-7133. And it's a new laptop, within a few months. The adapter is the one designed for it. And the "warbling" only happens when the adapter is plugged in. For example now, no adapter - the screen is fine. I stress again, too, that it doesn't matter whether the adapter is plugged into a power source (I thought for sure it was just ...

My wife bought a used Emachines M6805 laptop and after connecting to the internet noticed a lot of adware and possible viruses I'm guessing due to old file sharing programs "limewire" "kazza" I suggested formatting the hard drive and installing our copy of xp home to start with a clean slate. And instead I have opened a big can of worms it seems. After deleting the partision on the harddrive ...

Hi Silverspell ! Have you tried installing the Touchpad driver from Acer's website ? http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...k/as_5670.h tml It's listed under MS Windows XP Drivers and utilities, TouchPad Driver 7.12.13. You should install the latest drivers as well, the ones on the recovery CD may be outdated. Use an USB keyboard if needed. Have you contacted Acer about this ?
