Only thing I find is McAfee, do you use it? "McAfee On-Access Antivirus Scanner from Network Associates, Inc. It monitors your computer's processes, files and registry to attempt to detect and prevent virus infection." (Info Taken from a Avira AntiRootkit Tool Scan at BC) BG

If you have to open the computer case and mess about with the HD power cable just to get it working, backup any important data stored on it, then run the disk diagnostics utility from the hard drive manufacturer's website. If it finds any major faults that it can't fix, I would suggest a new hard drive. Have you tried using a different power connector? Are you using IDE or SATA? Is the non-OS drive internal or external? Is it a RAID...

@ Basementgeek Dear Basementgeek, I do appreciate the forum rules. However, I do not think that I have contravened them. What my superior is doing is unlawful in Britain. The intent of the question was not to circumvent the software, but to prove that it is actually there, so I can initiate legal steps against her behaviour. Is there any way you can help me? Thanks!

In case anyone else has this problem this is what you do. Open the AVG interface and double click on the Resident Shield un-check the Resident Shield active and click change (don't forget to re tick it when you have finished ) Each protection can be disabled the same way ie email scanner etc. Ron.

I am sure the advice stands. Avoid any/all Registry cleaners. I am not seeing that is a recommended program by Microsoft Windows. Yes it does say Windows, but not Microsoft Windows. I have all kinds of "Windows", bed room, basement, kitchen, etc. Even if it said it was recommend by Microsoft, I sure the advice would be the same -No/Don't use it.
