This sounds like an Ethernet switch with a CAM to hold the address routing table. When the switch receives a "new" address on the source, it identifies the port it came in on and loads it into a table. If it recognizes the destination from the table, it switches to that port and forwards the message. Hi -- it's Max here -- another reader asked me to post the following for him... If the number of FPGAs is reasonable, there is an easy answer. The data rate is low - it looks like one 4-byte-to-8-byte packet every 100 microseconds per FPGA. So a brute-force approach with a centralized resource will go up to several hundred FPGAs simply by allocating several hundred pins and one wide broadcast bus internally.
