I have used liberal asserts for many years and try to persuade my colleagues to do the same as much as possible, but in my current project my attitude has changed slightly. Whereas in the past I would use assert to check parameters on function entry and other 'impossible' scenarios, my current project is the first where a crash/bug may cause loss of life. For this project where ever I would have put assert, I now put the same check...

The assert() macro is good, and good to use. However, where does one "assert" to? In one of my recent projects, I wrote a complete post mortem analyzer. This thing did a complete stack trace, thread dump and a snap shot of all the interrupt service states. After the analyses, the analyzer would turn off all the interrupts and do direct writes to the terminal,...

Even though most engineers are happy doing R&D. I can say that it takes a lot of training just to get here! My instincts tell me that is what is keeping the younger folks from entering into this fine profession.

Great article, content wise. I'm a fan of PSoCs, and I can't wait for my next PSoC 3 or 5 project. It's a shame the author didn't take an extra 5 minutes to proof read/have it proofed by a colleague. It's full of what appears to be incomplete re-edits.

I can only speak for myself. My busy schedule means that I can ONLY spend one day at ESC. Usually, I spend ONLY one 1/2 day at the ESC in San Jose. Usually, it is on Wednesday afternoon.
The things that virtual cannot do, which I really like:
1. Meet real people face-2-face
2. Browse, and let serendipity rule
3. Bump into folks ... like Jack Ganssle!...

to overcome the shortcomings,I think maybe
the service can provide a register function
to let tasks submit related information instead of callbacks so that the service task can send back the results to tasks using these information

Ha! This article strikes near to my heart... I have actually implemented floating-point emulation packages for the MSP430 and the TMS34010 GSP, using 16-bit mantissa and 16-bit exponent. Because they use the native ALU width (and the 34010's XY arithmetic mode), they run much faster than the existing IEEE-format libraries.
The results are pleasing, ...
