Sounds like restore from original vista disk is best option - bear in mind license etc. Firewall / virus license too. Its a pain either way - took me over 5 hours the other day to fix someone else's laptop with xp and all the software and updates.

hiya Paul, I found the solution to mine which eventually solve yours...check out the below links.   http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial144.html   But I got another question, how do i duplicate this image to ANOTHER NEW machine (assume its the same spec) ???? O.K. just an update..i can now update the Guide, but now the error message is "media center has stopped working" when i select Live TV. Is it possible to repair VMC without doing a re-install of Vista. Cheers

Each time windows installed 6 critical updates my files were gone this happened twice. I system restored and it showed "6 critical updates" I let it do it then it deleted my files. Then another time about 4 days ago it showed 6 critical updates this was before the previous deletion. I went ahead and did it then my explorer had an appcrash (I'm not so savvy with the phrasing since I'm still learning more about...

Hi   Thanks for that will try Kaspersky, what about Vista's "Do you want this program to run" questionaire I was thinking maybe the customer may of also said no it allowing the program to run where is the option to ask again, if you get my meaning!!!   I haven't really had a chance to get to know Vista as well as I would like too what with being a small sole trader.   Eddie Eddie

When I try to restore my entire system from a backup in Vista Ultimate I can only see the most current backup. When I start a new backup I can see that the computer thinks that backups are available since the first one. When I look on the backup device I see 1 image.   Does anyone have an answer for this?     Thanks Paul...

There are a lot of posts on this subject.  Picked yours to reply to .  Had to tell someone.  I, like many of you have MS Vista Home Premium on a new Dell computer.  After reading many of the posts to select a way to resolve my problem it became clear that the Apple QuickTime  I just installed was the problem.  Uninstalled it.  Problem solved....

I made a complete back up image of my PC on DVDs but I cannot get them to load.  I pushed F8 at startup but did not get the option to repair my computer or start the restore process.  I have selected that the optical drive is first to boot but that doesn't seem to matter.  How do I restore my laptop from my dvd images?...

I've had Home Premium (32 bit) for about 15 months without any real problems but recently I've had a problem with System Restore. When I try to run it I get a small pop up window that says   Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service stopped working and was closed down. Hi First let me apologise if i've got the wrong thread. A PC I built for a customer awhile ago they have just purchased Football Manager 2009 by Sega but it wont autorun and install from DVD also I tried opening the Disk but cannot see any files on the DVD but IF I put a CD in the drive I can open the disk and see files on the disk.  I also tried attaching a
