SATA vs IDE, not really any difference, IDE burners don't max out an IDE aka PATA connection anyways, main advantage is smaller cables, more flexible cable also for SATA. Downside, unlike PATA you can only plug one drive into SATA, where as PATA you could have 2 IDE drives on one port. slim DVD burners are designed for laptops, slim External drive kits, small form factor systems (Micro ATX, Flex ATX, Mini ITX type platforms), but yes, if...

thats strange i get 6.2 on a intel dual core have you refreshed it a few times, i had it once report only 2.3 on an nvidia gts250 for graphics but i refreshed it and got 6.0,
to be fair though i dont think the experience index is anything to worry about too much, as long as the computer performs well thats all i worry about

1. depends on what your doing or using the PC for, and whether those tasks are optimized for Dual or Quad core CPU's. for Multi tasking, a Quad can be nice, but depends on the level of multi tasking you'd be doing
2. depends on what your doing or using the PC for, for gaming in general onboard sound is fine, unless your hooked up to some high quality speakers, as to ...

Hi and welcome to TechIMO.
First off I'd say run a Malware/Spyware/Virus scan, and make sure everything is up to par.
I'd suggest a mix of Malware Bytes and Trend Micro .
After that, if those show nothing, then I'd suggest downloading, burn, and run Memtest86 , and see if that shows anything. Lots of times hard lock is memory related, or a possible GPU driver ...

Hi, Alexis:
Welcome to TechIMO.
An external USB sound interface is going to allow most of the heavy lifting to be done outside your system, and you'll end up with far better sound than the crappy analog mini-plug can deliver. I suggest you look no further than the E-MU 0404 USB . This is definitely a professional quality product with both input and output options ...

If all you need is a single file then a live cd of knoppix (or any other live cd) would be the best bet. There isn't much involved just boot from the CD grab the file you need and you're done. Since it s a doc and you have no floppy your best bet might be to email it to yourself.
edit: a secondary option would be to slave the drive to the pc you are using now and copy ...

Damn it's been a long night, but here goes. Without knowing your exact specs no one can compare results so its fruitless without posting those Windows index is not a good benchmark the numbers are just meant for a basic comparison not an actual benchmark, try a good benchmark program and see where you stand Did you update your drivers and everything?

It sounds like you bought yourself a doorstop. If you have the power cable correctly attached to the card and it is seated correctly, it should boot right up. A "BIOS flash" as your friend suggested will not fix the card. Return it to your friend and get your money back.
