Recording TOTAL STRANGERS!!?! (!)

who cares what you wear? just dress comfortably. if you go in there and do a great job engineering this session, nobody will ever give a second thought to how you were dressed. but, don't show up dirty. they'll be able to smell your fear. if you really are confident, then let that confidence guide you. if you really aren't, then you could be in for a long day.

I will look into Bandcamp. I have heard of it, just not used it. So many of these sites are just 'hosting' sites that afford the knucklehead user the ability to upload and build a page without having to know html. The genius of myspace was the fact that musicians could build pages and then fraternize with normal, non-musician, people. I doubt there are anywhere near as many plain clothes folks perusing Bandcamp.

Thanks. This was my first paid mastering gig, and to be honest, the stuff needed a lot of work. Especially the live record. I wanted to get stuff to gel, and although I definitely feel that I have a long way to go as a mastering engineer (and an engineer in general), the client was really stoked with the results. I am really glad that they are as happy with the job that I did and to hear your compliment just made my day. So thanks again for...

yeah that is refreshingly straightforward and honest.

MoreSpaceEcho wrote: No, it's pay for use. You can build your own website to stream your content, but you're still going to have to pay for hosting... and it won't necessarily be that easy for people to find. If Myspace or iMeem provide a convenient place for people to find whatever music they want, as well as a way to discover new bands/artists they wouldn't otherwise be exposed to, then why shouldn't the bands be...

Recording the girlfriend again...
Published (2009-11-27 02:10:00)
My wife has a cheap electric guitar and a cheap acoustic guitar. She also has 5 books worth of lyrics. She also has 5 books full of cooking recipes. I have a full pro studio and work full time as an engineer. I have over 40 microphones and enough gear and plugins to choke a horse. I've worked on over 7 Grammy nominated records. We tried to work on one song, one time. We quickly figured out it was going to be rough going... So, here's...

domain name advice!
Published (2009-11-30 01:02:00)
I am starting to put together a website for myself so that I have something a little more professional then just a myspace link to attract clients. I may be over thinking too much but my name is on the longer side and easy to spell wrong: Christina Picciano. I'm wondering what I should use for a domain name. Since I don't have a studio or a company name yet I would have to use my name. Should I use christinapicciano.com? or maybe...

yeah I totally agree. I don't make it out to as many bars to see bands as I used to, and try to stick to places that seem to take pride in booking quality shows where you actually want to see all (or most of) the bands on a bill- Empty bottle, hideout, etc. I will say that if I play a show, I watch all the bands. and Usually I do if I am just in the audience. I think this comes at the "expense" of me going out to fewer...

You should start by abandoning this whole, " because we can, we shall" approach to rough mixes and recalls. I hardly ever have clients ask for rough mixes at the end of the session. I'm sure part of it has to do with confidence and trust. I haven't had a client ask me to make something sound more like a previous rough mix in years. Back then, I wasn't confident in my own abilities and that led...

Just off the bat, I can tell you key doesn't matter. Transposing a melody into another key doesn't change the melody. I'm sure there are guidelines, if not set rules for how the law is applied available somewhere on the web, if you search for it. Maybe even the actual language of the law. And the idea that there's nothing new left to do in music just shows a lack of creativity, IMO. Hell, there ...

It sounds like you may not be the best person for the job, although I'm sure the price is right. If the two of you have less-than-perfect communication anyway then you're both just asking for trouble with a project like this. Additionally, if you recorded the last one and she's not happy with it then you already have a weak track record with the client, I'm afraid.
Maybe even bringing in...

Ouch!!! That's gotta hurt....Have you talked to them and asked why? I ran into this a couple times and it turned out to be nothing personal but still it's a little hard on the ego. It could be they're just looking for a different sound or experimenting with some different equipment. Ya never know. At the very least you have a good example of your work to show people which will lead to other ...

If you know anyone who owns their own business, ask them who their CPA is. Set up a meeting. A good CPA shouldn't charge you for an initial sit-down.

Well... I don't need to drive 45 minutes to Guitar Center just to deal with an insanely unknowledgeable sales force anymore.
Went into a new Best Buy nearby today to get some printer ink and look at what the prices are on flat screens I won't be buying anytime soon, and I saw they have the instrument department.
Checked it out, and I have to admit the selection - while small - was...
