Thanks. I'll separate the common from the shield and run the common through the extra pin. Curious as to why it worked wired like this for the past supply. Hmm. Question: In the preamp box, I should do the same thing, right? Shield to chassis (definitely steel here, but in it's own flight case so not connected to other gear), common pin to circuit ground? Actually this is how I wired up my ADM preamp power supply thanks to...

Yep, I wasn't picking it up. Thanks for the correction. _________________ NOT drinking the company cool lou judson: ""Auto-tune is the last refuge of the incompetent musician." Michael Joly said " Its ironic that musicians have access to inspirational sources yet autotune can exist and is used."

grounding an old two prong tube amp

Many thanks Scott for the great info. Another question if I may: Upon removal of the Death Cap, does its wire strand that continues across the base of the tube socket remain, or is that removed also. (*see arrows in photo)

I think you're misreading the specs, Brian. These are dial primary, dual secondary transformers. The primary can be wired in series for 24K or parallel for 5K. The secondary does 150 or 600, parallel or series, respectively. Hammond put it fairly succinctly: they're for coupling the plates of a push-pull ( a.k.a."p.p.") tube amp to a 600-Ohm line. You could wire one backwards (swap primary and secondary) to use it...

Because you didn't have as much of a ground loop with the previous set-up, for whatever reason.

I have 4 channels of it, but haven't assembled them yet. A lot of people have built them, and you rarely see them for sale on the black market @ DIY prodigy pro. I'm working on api 312's at the moment, nearly done. You can search the posts at the prodigy link I left, and see about the greens, they are modeled after the 9098's... mrc

RCA to 1/4" why not!
Published (2009-12-30 16:08:00)
Yeah....forget everything. When I was running one speaker at a time, the other speaker cables were danging...and every so often touching. This apparently causes the HK to short out. Well, since I've come this far, would anyone mind telling me why crossing the speaker wires shorts out the system? Is it essentially just like tripping a circuit in my home? It's a safety catch cause the HK recognizes that the resistance is MIA and there...

Does the new supply use a different power transformer located close to the amps?

Hey guys, a little new here...
I was wondering if there is a guide out there for modding the electronics in the oktava 319 as well as damping the body. If anyone has personal experience with this, I'd love to hear it. I don't think the electronics mod would be terribly difficult, but I am confused about re-wiring the capsule (which is what I was told you have to do if you damp the body) ...

There's been a lot of discussion and experimentation with adapters on the Yahoo HD24 users group. One of the regulars there found a good adapter and has started offering caddies with the adapter installed.

It seems that if the adapter has a Marvell chip, then there's a fairly good chance it will work; however, not all adapters with Marvell chips worked....

125/600 would be a mic pre input if the 125 side is on the input xlr.
6k /24k is line input if the 6k is on the input. The 24k would make the output higher impedance.

That rocks! I just missed out on getting an Otari MX-80; I would've jumped on this. Very cool Chris.

I just built up a psu to replace a blown one for my 4 channel 1272 box.
I used the five fish 2448 mk2. It outputs +24v, -24v, +48v and ground.
I hooked it up and got it working, but have some sort of ground issue--I hear low-level hum (not much but there was almost none before). If I turn on a second channel, it gets louder, but cancels when I hit phase reverse (I don't get this exactly...

I checked the pin out from the 6pin side to the xlr. I found that 3 pins on the DIN connector side have no xlr equiv at all. Considering these dead 3 pins seem to be causing shorts, what if I just remove the 3 useless pins from the DIN jack side entirely? They are somewhat used in the stability of the mic in the base, but only barely if at all. Comments appreciated.

I have figured out all of the problems with this machine, and now run into some mechanical puzzles.
First, getting the takeup reel back on. It is fastened at the top with a clip on a shaft witch sits above ball bearings. The pressure the clip and the berings create a friction at the base of the reel which makes it spin with put into play, rec, or ff. The problem is that this clip is so ...

Just build a pair of cables that go RCA to 1/4" TS (not TRS - no ring contact). You can't get balanced from RCA.

The usual method:
1> Check the obvious stuff: look for anything visibly broken. Burnt components, corroded jacks, fallen-off connectors, smashed/bent/broken controls.
2> Doublecheck that the offending channel is getting power.
3> Get serious. Get a schematic, signal generator and oscilloscope. Run signal into the channel. Follow the signal path through the channel, ...

Hi Kevin,
I have used one of these as well as it's later brothers and there is no reason to want to modify it to anything else. It does a fine job by it's original design.
I have the M50, M520 and a M512 for parts that is broken down. The reason I bought this was to manage a greatly oversized stereo system including the purpose of audio correction in video transfer. I was also on the ...
